    Seat actually looks better than in the picture Seat actually looks better than in the picture. This looked to be a well made and sturdy wood product. My issue is that the front lid portion that faced out was not finished well compared to the rest of the seat. There were spots that were not sanded and/or finished properly. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that this item accidently made it through Quality Control. I returned the seat and am considering repurchasing to see if I get a better one. As someone pointed out you will have to mount all the hardware since it does not come assembled like the ones from the hardware stores. I expect a lot for a $50+ toilet seat, and if it wasn't for the specific areas where the wood was not finished properly I think this may be worth it although I never had the chance to install or use. 3UGH Just be aware, the hardware is NOT attached, like it would be in your local Home Depot store. And the seat is not really rounded on the inside or outside edges. It's VERY FLAT to sit on. At first, my husband wanted to put the seat back on, that came with the toilet. But we'll leave this one on for now. It's WAY over priced for not being shaped and finished better. We'll look in actual stores and find one, then toss this one. 3You have to build the seat! The entire seat had to be put together, it came as 2 pieces of wood and some hardware. The left and right were mislabeled and one of the bumpers had fallen off. I have never had to assemble a toilet seat before and especially not for the price I paid. I would have returned it all but I needed the seat for a rental house. I'll be surprised if it lasts very long. 1Be careful if you follow the instructions......... Disappointed in this. The color is much, much lighter than pictured. The top has a 1" x 1" mar in the finish. This would NOT have passed inspection in my workshop. Helpfully, the top and the hardware packages were labelled "R" and "L" so that you could install the hardware properly. However in this country "R" means Right and "L" means Left, so you must translate this to "R" = "L" and so on. The alleged stainless steel screws are obviously 'junk' metal and very, very easy to strip out, even if you use exactly the correct size screwdriver. 2Poor Quality It arrived broken as the plastic footers were bent. At the cost of this item it should have had a better and stronger footers. Turned out was lucky as the directions to put it on looked scary. 1A Very Strange Experience They get only 1 star in our view. Reason: The Oak toilet seat is WAY too light to match a natural oak color. We had to send it back and order the dark brown. Guess what? The dark brown is actually so dark it is nearly BLACK and that is no joke. There seems to be no in between. Zero! It's either too light or else too dark. And listen to this: We found it was 20 bucks cheaper to buy it directly from the manufacturer (Unbeatable Sale, Inc.). It cost us a total of $72.77 to buy it from Amazon and $50.84 from Unbeatable Sale! This includes the shipping cost. And listen to this: When you go to ship it back for a refund or exchange all they give you is an RMA number, no free shipping label to sent it back. I even called and asked them for a return shipping label and they flat out said "we don't offer that service". In other words YOU have to pay the hefty price to return it. So be forewarned in case you need to return an item to them. The cost for us to ship it back was just over $33 bucks and that was the least expensive method. The toilet seat itself seems to be well made but man those colors are so out of whack. Proceed with caution! 1Awful!!! I wanted a classy looking toilet seat and this also had the oil rubbed bronze hinges to match my flush handle. It arrived with a big scratch, but it was under the toilet seat ring and I didn't want to go thru the hassle of returning it. Within a month the hinges had totally corroded, turned green and were gross to touch and look at! Plus more marks and scratches. I ended up throwing it away. SUPER disappointing for an almost $60 toilet seat!!! 1Not Finger Joined Construction It's a shame. The wood is top grade and well matched red oak with a nice finish, and the hardware seems very sturdy. Unfortunately, it doesn't have finger joined construction as claimed. I'm a (hobbyist) woodworker, and finger joints don't even make sense for edge-joining wood; they are typically used for corners of boxes and drawers. The appropriate joint would be tongue-and-grove, and if that was used you would be able to see it when looking at the end grain of the wood, in this case the front and rear of the seat. There are no tongue-and-groves to be seen; it's just butt glued, like all the other toilet seats that are frequently reported to break within a year or so.By contrast, this seat has gone on a new toilet that replaced an older one that had an oak seat. Unfortunately, that toilet had a round bowl, and thus the old seat wouldn't fit the new elongated toilet. When I look at the old seat I can indeed see the tongue-and-groves, in fact their are double tongue-and-groves, which is the highest possible quality.I struggled with the number of stars to award, because on the surface it deserves 5. However, I hate to be lied to, and I'm not confident that it will prove durable. I'll admit that I haven't returned it, but that's because I want an oak seat badly, and all the other seats I looked at had horrible reviews. This seat has as reasonable reviews, but they are few in number and thus may prove a poor indicator. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. 3I'd recommend the seat for quality material The first toilet seat I received, the top cracked along the glue-lamination line within 1 week. I sent it back, and the second seat cracked along the seat glue-lamination line within 2 weeks. I sent it back, and the third seat has now cracked along the top glue-lamination line within the first month.The seat is solid red oak, and it does have quality hinges. There is a major manufacturing problem though with the seats. Wood glue is stronger than the wood, so the seat should never fail along a glue-lamination line, unless there is a manufacturing problem,I'm a woodworker, so I'll keep the 3rd seat, and use it as a template for making my own.I'd recommend the seat for quality material; however, if you buy one, be prepared to send it back for replacement who knows how many times. 1Pretty but fatally flawed I originally posted a stellar review for this seat but after only a few months the seat cracked in the front center. We received a replacement and that one had a spot without finish along the rim and you could feel a snaggy spot where the first one broke. Sure enough, in only a week the replacement broke in the same spot. There is a manufacturing flaw in these. They are not glued in a specific place. The lack of finish on the second unit lets me know there is no quality control. Total waste of time and money. 1
