Customer Reviews

HeadacheThis thing is cute and all, and quite large, but a major headache. Maybe because of the size or odd shape, it has to be in EXACTLY the right position for it to prevent the water from draining. If the child even slightly bumps it, (which happens multiple times each bath) it starts draining the water, ever so slightly, so you don't even realize it's happening until the tub is half empty and you have to refill it. So much water has been wasted because of this thing.2I have yet to find a drain that this does not fit over.I first bought this drain cover because the drain in our tub was not sealing well and would leak water. Our landlord has since fixed that but I still use it because I know for sure I will not have any water leaking out when this is over the drain. I also bought a second one because my husband and I travel a lot and I love taking baths. I have often ran into the problem of the tubs leaking. I know this will always fit over any drain no matter the type of closure. So keep the second one in my travel bag for our trips. Such a great product. I know this is intended for children to not get hurt by the drain but works for me as well .5Perfect Solution to Bath Water Loss I agonized over this purchase. I have tried several sizes and shapes of drain covers without success. Would the BOON work to keep the water in my long baths without water loss? Was it another cover that allowed slow leaks? It sounds like a small problem, but my baths are very important to me. I didn't need to waste any time on negativity. This product covered my apartment bath drain like a pro! The shape was perfect, with the smaller lip up front. My previous problem was that regular drain covers were too wide to tightly cover the smallish drain that was pushed up close to the side. This does the trick with no problems whatsoever. I just cover the drain with the Boon, flip the drain to open, and start running my bath water. The water and the drain cause a tight seal. VOILA!!! 5With minimal effort, product works really well!I've tried several types, shapes and brands and this is by far the best. There is an issue though. I have to hold it down until the bath water is several inches over the top of it before I let go because the power of the water coming out of the spout is so powerful that it detaches it from the tub bottom. However, if you wet the bottom of the tub first and then apply the drain cover over top of the drain and hold it until the water is a couple of inches over the top of it, once it takes hold, you won t lose a drop! Very satisfied even with the extra effort because compared to the others i've tried, this one works like a dream. Some people may think that there is too much involvement in order for this product to work correctly but I have one-of those spring up drain plugs that you cannot just simply remove to be able to use those other better drain covers that actually dip down into the hole. I need the reverse. A tub drain cover that goes over my spring-loaded drain plug that cannot be removed. So, even though I'm sure that I haven't tried them all, the ones I did try and then return over and over again this one is definitely worth it. To put my finger there for two minutes before I let go is well worth the three hour bubble bathes my ten year old is enjoying without a drop lost down the drain to me is impressive. Because, the original spring loaded one leaks like a sieve.5Perfect Solution for a Leaky Tub Our tub is older, and the stopper leaks. When my son takes a bath, I normally have to add more water before he s done. We re waiting to remodel the bathroom, so I went looking for a temporary solution. I was hesitant that this would work when I ordered. Based on reviews, I chose the blue stingray. It arrived today, and we immediately gave it a try. It worked perfectly. I held it in place until there was a little water in the tub. It didn t move, and we didn t loose any water from the tub other than what my son splashed out. The only downside is that it is really easy to remove. So if you have a younger child who would want to play with it, you may have an issue keeping it in place. 5Check your tub before purchaseReturned it.You have to have a special kind of bathtub for this to work ..... Like with the drain in the middle like a jacuzzi tub. If the sea star is bent at all it doesn't create suction. I tried everything.1Works-ish...At first this would not stay in place and would just float in the water as I filled the tub, but then I held it down and pressed the sides while I filled the tub and that did the trick, at first... No leaking or draining while my little one splashed around until he noticed that it's bright and fun looking so it looks more like a toy and is extremely tempting... It also slips very easily on the tub so the slightest toe touch will push it aside and the water starts to drain. I ended up going to Walmart and buying a $2 "deluxe tub stopper with chain" by Peerless. Standard white, rubber, sticks-in-the-drain tub stopper... Much more effective.2Tip for a perfect sealI love to take a bath when the weather gets cold - so relaxing - that is until I start to hear the trickle of water leaking through the drain. I bought this star shaped drain cover to see if that would fix the leak. I had trouble initially getting a good seal. Some reviewers suggested having it in place while tub filled. I tried that and the force of the water made it move, BUT here's the solution that worked for me: engage your tub's drain stopper and fill tub as you normally would. Then place this cover over drain hole and release your tub's drain stopper. The suction from water trying to drain will pull cover tight for a perfect seal. you can then re-engage tub drain stopper if you want. This method, naturally wouldnt work for a tub with a rubber stopper, but for tubs with the lever type stopper below the spout it worked perfectly. I get a nice deep bath with no water loss when paired the Bottomless bath overflow drain cover:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00314WHW6/ref=sxts_bia_sr_1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=3182441022&pd_rd_wg=oy5gO&pf_rd_r=414BSVB59BTCDE0YF7PH&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-top-slot&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_i=B00314WHW6&pd_rd_w=Z2rMd&pf_rd_i=bottomless+bath+overflow+drain+cover+-+recyclable&pd_rd_r=44459ASHSRZPZYZAHSN0&ie=UTF8&qid=1505220587&sr=15Measure your drain s placementWe use to have the Sting Ray version of this product and it served us well for two years before it was lost in a move overseas. My husband wanted to buy the Star version because it was cheaper...well that was a mistakeBecause of this design, if your tub drain is within two inches of the edge of the tub, it will not work properly because it can t lay completely flat and create suction. The sting ray is the better choice.2It's cute but difficultSuper cute and does actually work. It does take a bit of messing with it to get it to really stay and not float to the top.4Not Suctioning for Us I have purchased MANY Boon products and am usually a big fan of what they make, however we have not had as good of luck with this product. I do love that it looks really cute and it goes with all the Boon toys and storage we have in our bathroom. My kids love the design of the "stingray" and love to play with him. However, we have not had good luck with it sticking to the bottom of the tub. I put it on as the directions say, when the tub is dry and then fill it up. If my kids bump it at all, it comes right off. I have even tried putting it on after getting it a little wet and it still doesn't suction very good. Also, ours did not come with a suction cup. It is, however great to keep my kids occupied in the bath as a toy. 3Suction works! Great compliment to TubShroom! Some of the reviewers stated that it doesn't form suction. It does, as long as you place it over the drain BEFORE you start running water in the tub. It also stores well (with suction) on smooth shower tiles. We have a TubShroom, which requires you to remove the original shower drain, so I needed a way to fill the tub with the TubShroom in when we give the dog a bath. The dome shape of this cover is perfect for sitting atop the TubShroom. 5PERFECT!!I love this product!! To those of you that claim it won't stick and is useless, you're not using it correctly. THIS IS THE KEY: The starfish will only stick well when you DON'T close the drain. You MUST LEAVE THE DRAIN OPEN. An open drain will cause suction and this is what keeps the starfish in place. Also you should wait for the bath water to fill just a bit so the weight of the water holds it down. This is exactly what I was looking for; I need a drain cover that is raised in the center since I have a tub that has one of those pop-up/twist to open and close type drains. I even performed a leak test in which I left the water in the tub over night to see if it would leak and It didn't budge. I'm so happy with this purchase! Its super cute too and makes me smile.5Starfish TOYDoes NOT have a single suction cup on it. It also does not adhere to the tub by any means, nor does it create a suction seal when the tub is filled before the bather gets in.I am at a loss. If anyone has advice for a product that actually works, feel free to respond. I have bought several, and fpund no solution. We have a flat drain in our tub. I do not wish to remove it. It certainly would have been cheaper than wasting money on several "drain blockers" that don't in any way, stay in place.I have an autistic teenager who only takes baths. I need a drain BLOCKER that remains in place, because his feet touch the drain area, and there's no preventing that. Loss of water ensues. At least he enjoys the starfish as a toy.1LOVE IT! Stays down if tub floor is wet first. My tub leaks badly (water drains out of it, because the stopper no longer seals properly), but it's the kind of drain that's attached from underneath the tub and sticks up. This fits over the drain perfectly, and NO WATER LEAKS OUT!Some reviews say it won't stay over the drain. That's true, unless you first run at least a little water to get the floor of the tub wet before putting this over the drain. It'll create just enough suction to stay in place. If your faucet's water comes out forcefully, you might need to wait until there's enough water to cover the blue stingray, then the weight of the water above it will keep it down, in place.I love it, because now I can linger in the bathtub as long as I want without the water level going down. 5
