Customer Reviews

Great quality, easy to use and clean. Have spreadable butter available at all times. What could be better than having spreadable butter at hand whenever you want rather than having to settle for spreadable vegetable oil that claims to taste like butter?! The Original Butter Bell Crock is simple to use. Just push 1/2 cup (one stick) of butter into the cup inside the lid of the butter crock. Put approximately 1/3 cup cold water in the base of the butter crock. Put the lid back on the base. Change the water every 2-3 days. This butter crock is of very good quality and is easy to clean and use. I keep my Amish made butter in my butter crock right next to my honey pot. It makes me feel empowered 5MUST HAVE FOR REAL BUTTER LOVERS!We love the ease of using butter that is softened! We use Kerrygold butter and it is super soft and spreadable all day every day. I change the water every few days and have not had any issues with mold or anything. You just need to add a little more water each time you use more butter so that the water can fill the cavity. THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR REAL BUTTER LOVERS! 5A product that does exactly what it promises. Buy one!I am nearly 72 years old and over my lifetime I have bought a lot of thing but very few thing that I have been totally happy with. This, however, is one of those amazing products that does just what it says it will. I really wish I had known about these 50 years ago. Don't wait. Buy one. You will not regret your decision. This is heavy-weight fired crockery that can be put into the dishwasher periodically for a thorough cleaning. Water is used to seal the butter from the air so the butter doesn't go rancid. The instructions suggest changing the water in the outer crock every two days. Let me tell you, it's hard to remember when it's been two days so we change it every morning after putting butter on our morning toast. That we can remember. 5but I realized that nothing bad comes of itI'll review now, with the disclaimer that I haven't yet used the product through one of our hot summers, when my house will be at least 10 degrees warmer than it is now.I got this because my husband was raised in a family that kept their butter out a room temp all the time. This grossed me out initially, but I realized that nothing bad comes of it, aside from undeniable mess! My teenage kids are in the butter all the time and with it being soft, it just seemed to be all over the place. In the summer I insisted that it go in the refrigerator because it is so warm here that it would turn into a puddle of melted butter all over the butter dish. Then I heard about the Butter Bell and thought it might be a good compromise--they get their soft butter and I get a way to keep it a bit more neatly contained. What I love: The fun green color livens up my counter space. It takes up less space than my traditional butter dish and is easier to move around. Getting the soft butter out of a cup-shaped vessel is actually easier than from a flat dish. The butter does seem to be the perfect consistency, as advertised. What I don't love: There is inevitable wetness on the outside and top edge of the crock when you take it out. It doesn't really hurt anything, but it's just kind of drippy. I wipe it off with a paper towel if I have one handy before use. Also, it sounds silly, but there is actually a bit of family training involved in using this product! I've had to try to teach my husband and teenagers to change the water regularly, and how to refill the butter when low. None of this has been very successful, and I find that I'm the one regularly doing this for everyone, even if I'm not the one using the butter. What I've learned: It is a bit of a hassle to soften a whole cube of butter (wait time) and then have to get it properly situated in the crock. What I've found is that it's better to not let the crock get all the way empty. Instead, when it's about half-way gone, cut a half-cube of cold butter and just squish it right down into the soft butter remaining in the crock. It gets right down into the middle of the soft butter, with the soft butter adhering to the sides of the crock to hold it in place. Smooth it over with the displaced soft butter and voila! It's full to capacity again. The cold butter just gradually warms up and incorporates into the soft butter. This works great for a family like mine that goes through quite a bit of butter. If it ever does get all the way empty, then it's time for a thorough washing, but really, I haven't noticed that it seems to need washing that often.I'm anxious to use the crock in the summer--the true test! I'm sure my family is hoping it is successful so I won't put their butter in the refrigerator again! 4Awesome butter dishLove it!! It s so cute and goes so well with my kitchen decor. It definitely is a good product for butter and it stays at a temperature too. 5Who KnewWe've never used a butter bell or knew anyone who did. At first my husband thought it was yet another kitchen gadget. Well let me me say that he is a big fan. Its easy to use, easy to clean and looks nice on our counter. I recommend this product. I was not paid or given a free product for my review 5This is the butter crock you wantI am very pleased with my butter crock from L Tremain. This is my second crock and we really like the cow pattern. When the 1st crock gets about 1/2 empty we fill up the 2nd crock so we never run out of soft butter. The L. Tremain butter crock is made from New Bone China and does not have the traditional layer of glaze over clay. The clay itself has been made water proof. Because they are made differently and from different materials, the L. Tremain crocks don't have the same problem as the Norpros which is the thin layer of glaze developing fine cracks that eventually allows butter to seep beneath the glaze and go rancid. I had to throw away two Norpro butter crocks before discovering the L Tremain crocks.Save yourself some hassle and money and buy one of the L. Tremain crocks instead of a butter crock made with traditional glazed clay like the Norpro crocks. 5Love this!I had my doubts about keeping butter at room temperature, but I love this Butter Bell and it really works! We are in the hot and humid Houston area, and have had no mold or other problems with the butter. I change the water out every two or three days, as recommended. That is not a big deal. I just dump the old water, rinse the crock, then add 1/3 cup of water. I use the chilled, filtered water from the refrigerator, because the instructions say to use cold water. It was easy to put a full stick of softened butter into the crock. Some reviewers had a problem with the butter popping out of the bell, but I haven't had that happen. I think the key may be packing the butter in tightly so there is no air underneath the butter.I love having spreadable butter available to use on toast and pancakes, and when making grilled cheese sandwiches and paninis. There are cheaper crocks available, but I wanted to get the "original." The quality is excellent and I am very happy with my purchase. 5The Original, and the BEST.Do yourself a huge favor and just buy one of these. Not the cheaper version--not the one thats almost just like this one, but a tiny bit cheaper. Buy this one. This brand. I didn't care what color it was, although i actually really like the matte black color i purchased. I got that one because it was the least expensive color and i needed one NOW. I wanted a butter crock. Started out with the cheapy one--NOT the L Tremain Original Butter Crock. It was a different brand--same design. NOT THE SAME! Butter wasn't keeping fresh. Anyway, it broke and I got another one. This time with the holes in it. I liked the idea of that. It broke in 1 day. FINALLY, decided to bite the bullet and go for the Original Butter Bell Crock by L. Tremaine. It is worth it. And for the people moaning about it being made in china? So it used to be that the best china--BONE CHINA, was from, get this, China. Nowadays, a lot of crap comes from China. This is not one of those things. This is a quality product that works very well and happens to be constructed in China. It happens. This butter crock keeps butter fresh for weeks if water is changed regularly. It is made very well. I have purchased 3 different brands and this is the original and the best. 5Great quality but a less pricey option may work just as goodProduct came packaged well and intact. I chose this one because it was an original and has history in quality. The reviews on other brands mentions that the lid didn't rest completely flat. Well this one didn't quite either. The directions were followed and I have mine sitting on the counter. It is early April in Oklahoma and we are known to have ants as unwelcomed guests in our homes. I will give it a few weeks and report back any new findings. So far I love the fact I can use my real butter at room temperature without tearing up my toast or bread! 4
