Customer Reviews

The new OEM partsSince the TT take over these parts have been made in China. They have the same manufacturing Stamp as original Oreck parts at this point but, it gets just 4/5 starts since they seem to use slightly softer bristles than my 4200h2 and, xl9100 which is over 20 years old and still shows minimal signs of wear on the brush head. The new brush heads have already shead a couple of fibers from some use so I can t see them lasting literally decades but, at this point whoever sells the cheapest replacement rollers is really the best value because, there s just no more knockoff product. The OE part is a knock off at this point. 4Perfect replacement roller for my OreckThe replacement roller was identical and worked perfectly. I cant believe the difference in performance with a new roller. The Oreck dealer wanted $90 to replace roller and belt and maintenance on the vacuum which only consists of blowing out the hair, dust, etc around the motor, nothing that will really compensate for the difference in price. I saved $70 doing it myself and it only took less than 10 minutes for everything. 5Perfect replacementOne of the bearings failed on the brush assembly of my 15 year old Oreck XL2100. This vacuum cleaner had been relegated to garage/shop/patio use (vacuuming broom-finished concrete is HARD on it) the last few years. I ordered this and am really impressed with it. My original roller had a plastic driven sheave while this one has a metal one. (Some previous reviewers reported just the opposite!!)At first I thought I had ordered the wrong one because the bristles were about twice as long as my old one. But it installed fine - I now think that my old bristles were simply worn down - likely due to vacuuming on concrete. The first time I used it after installing the new roller I was blown away - this thing now picks up remarkably better than I can ever remember which I am attributing to the longer bristles.I'll update this at the end of the summer and let you know how it holds up in my somewhat abusive environment. 5Not for XL Platinum or XL22Looks like a quality roller, not some cheap knockoff. Unfortunately, I have an XL Platinum, which takes a roller that's about an inch & a half longer. Here's how to tell which one you have:Look at the very end (either end; they'll both be the same) and look for the edge brushes. If it's two single brushes 180 apart and all brushes are on the wooden part of the roller, then this is not the roller for you.If instead you have 2 pairs of single brushes 180 apart, and one set is on the plastic part of the roller (which you can see on the picture for this roller), then you are in the right place and should order this roller.I hope that helps somebody. Btw, if this is not the right roller for you then you can search on "Oreck XL Platinum roller brush" and you should find the right one here on Amazon. 3Bearing went bad on old Oreck BrushMy son said that the old Oreck started to smoke when he turned it on. I was about to throw it away when I decided to turn it on to see what he was talking about. The brush didn't turn but the motor sounded fine and didn't produce smoke or smell. So I took the plate off the bottom. The belt was broken so I replaced it and put the vacuum cleaner back together. Mistake on my part. The new belt immediately burned up producing the smoke and smell my son talked about. I took it apart again and found that the bearing was shot and the roller wasn't turning so when the motor started and the belt didn't, the friction of the belt on the brush burned it up. Solution: New brush roller assembly and a 3 pack of new rubber belts. Vacuum works great and I paid less than twenty bucks total. 5Oreck XL brushBackground: The Oreck was given to us about 8 years ago as it wasn't working. Took it apart and discovered the suction tube was totally clogged and the drive belt was broken. Fixed both of those and we've used it since, no problems. I decided that perhaps the brush should be replaced, it still picked up, but I later discovered that was due to powerful suction. Emailed Oreck to ask if there was a way to determine when to replace the brush. Yep, put a straight edge over the brush opening and if you can't see bristles, it's time to replace. OK. Ordered this unit from Amazon. When it came in, disassembled the Oreck and removed the old brush, discovered that it was marked "new" and "old"...hmmm, naturally I hadn't noticed how it came out. Looking at the new one, yep, it was also so labeled. No instructions, so fast trip to youtube and watched a 90 second video (what'd we do before the internet?) and found that the "new" should be closest to you with the unit upside down on the floor. Reassembled and it works great.Observations: Take the bottom off your Oreck and see if you can simply rotate "new" with "old." and avoid replacing brush for now. When you order this unit,[...] get some belts as they are the biggest failure point of these machines. Have at least a 4" long (blade) #1 or #2 Phillips screwdriver for dis assembly. The new "multipurpose" screwdrivers with interchangeable bits are too thick to access the screws. 5mostly because of the good reviews! Now that I have itFirst this roller brush was shipped in a timely manner. I ordered this one, mostly because of the good reviews ! Now that I have it, there are some pro's and con's !! First the good - 1) the price seems fair. 2) the bag it came in had the Oreck name and part # on it. 3) where the belt rides (pulley) is metal (not plastic), the shaft is wood. 4) it looks and works very similar to the one I replaced. Now for the questionable 1) it's not exactly the same ( different ends on wood shaft that reduce the number of bunches of bristles and furthermore the spacing is greater between the bunches of bristles at the shaft ends). 2) throughout the length of the wood shaft the number of bristles in bunches is less, for example - say there's 100 bristles in a bunch on my original one, on this replacement one there's only 80, thereby giving other reviewers the idea that its not as stiff of a brush, when actually the bristles are most likely the same stiffness, there's just less of them ! 3) the Oreck label used on the plastic bag, looks like just anybody typed it up and put it on there ! ........ overall if the vacuum works as good as it use too, then most of this stuff won't really matter much,...... so i'm going to ask the wife right now and see what she say's ? Her response was ...... " I don't notice any real difference" !!! So, there you have it ! 4OEM Roller Brush for Oreck XL VacuumBought this with the understanding it would be an OEM Oreck roller brush replacement and it was! The design and construction were the same as the original roller brush on the vacuum. The only difference (which was minor) was the substitution of a metal end with a plastic end. Will not affect the performance and does not seem likely that it would affect the durability over the life of the roller brush. This roller brush was much cheaper (~$14) through Amazon than if I would have purchased it through Oreck. They wanted ~$30 for the brush and then wanted to charge another $20 or so to install it. The replacement is something anyone able to read and with a little bit of ambition can do for themselves. The biggest thing is watching the orientation of the square holders at each end of the roller brush. Other than that it's four screws, remove the belt, remove the roller brush and install the new one. Also, for those replacing, the roller brush has two different orientations (as noted above). This allows for the brush to basically be lower so that you can get more life out of a single roller brush. In other words, make sure you have used your roller brush to it's fullest. If you have your instruction manual, it's all in there. I would suggest taking a look at it before doing the replacement. 5Not Genuine OreckEven though the description said "Genuine Oreck XL upright Roller Brush", the product I received was a knock-off made by Crucial Vacuum. It looks similar to the genuine Oreck brush, but the Crucial brush has 33 tufts of bristles in each spiral (end to end), and the genuine Oreck brush has 37 tufts of bristles in the same space. This means the Oreck brush puts more bristles on the carpet to pick up dirt. This product will probably work ok, but should not have been advertised as being a genuine Oreck product. 3Quality PartSo far, this seems to be the perfect fix for our vacuum problems. A bit of backstory: Our Oreck has been smelling when we used it. It was the burning rubber type smell, so we replaced the belt. Well, we kept having the same problem, and have gone through a number of belts. Finally, we decided that perhaps the brush wasn't spinning as freely as it should. Since we couldn't disassemble the brush on our vacuum, replacing it seemed like the best option. My husband was impressed with this particular brush. The pieces are all a bit tighter together than the one that originally came on the vacuum, so we are hoping it is less likely that something will get tangled up in there. Vacuum is working great still. Seems to have fixed out problem! 5
