Customer Reviews

Wood is not smoothEverything is good. I just don't like the feel of the wooden handle. It's not nicely smooth like the one I own. It could be that mine is just old and worn, but I doubt I would have purchased it if it did not nice feel nice in my hand.4I'm becoming a Dexter-Russell spatula junkie!I'm so glad I recently found Dexter-Russell spatulas! I already had the 5-1/2 inch spatula/turner, and it is fantastic. We decided a larger one would be better for pancakes on a griddle, so I purchased this larger, 8-inch version. Husband declares it to be the perfect tool for the cast-iron griddle, and I presume, for the grill as well.We had already determined that plastic & nylon spatulas never seemed thin enough to handle a pancake properly. Plus, they were not only bad for us, but bad for the cast iron, since they can melt. So, no more plastic spatulas for us! Since we have also gotten rid of chemical-based non-stick in favor of stainless steel and cast iron (properly seasoned), metal tools was a logical next step for us.The metal blade is thin to slip between the food and the cooking surface, and has a little flexibility to it. The corners are rounded to protect the cast iron seasoning from scratches and gouges. The stainless steel blade is smooth and pretty much non-stick naturally.I have one suggestion for you if you find that your lovely wooden handle is a bit rough: Vigorously rub the handle with a piece of brown paper sack. Grocery sack is perfect, but with diminishing availability, I use a lightweightlunch sack, or even a heavy-weight paper towel. Believe it or not, the paper acts like very fine sandpaper, and smooths out the little rough spots to a silky smoothness. Then I give the handle a light rub with mineral oil, wiping the excess off. The oil helps the handle repel moisture and keeps the wood from drying out. Occasionally, repeat this process to keep the wood looking and feeling great!Try not to put your wood or wood-handled cooks tools in the dishwasher, as it will dry out the wood, even with the heat-dry turned off. Hand-washing is recommended, and with the excellent quality of the stainless steel on this piece, clean-up is a breeze!5Very well made, rather hugeIt is larger than you would think from the measurements and pictures. But it is also very well made as I have come to expect from Dexter-Russel. The blade has a nice balance between rigidity and flexibility, the corners are nicely rounded to prevent scratches, and the handle is lovely.I use mine to flip crepes in my Lodge 10.5" round griddle instead of a traditional crepe spatula, it works perfectly. The size means the crepes don't slide off too easily, and the thin blade is able to get under the crepes without difficulty.I can also use it to remove things from inside my small toaster oven without burning myself. And it does a great job moving cakes off the base of springform pans. The only problem is storage due to its size.5Matches our walnut setShould have bought this fork two years ago when we lost the one from the set we've had forever. Couldn't decide on which wood-handled fork would match best (it didn't have to be perfect, just fit well) so I bought two different Dexter Russell carver forks, intending to return the one that wasn't a match. Kept both! The wood is quality fine-grained walnut, the tines are stiff shiny stainless steel (not cheap flexible pot metal) and the length is perfect to match the hanging set. Drilled a hole in the handle, hung the fork up with the set, and regretted not buying this sooner!5No really good quality. It did last only 1 year for me as a Japanese Hitachi chef.I am a Japanese hibachi chef, It did last only one year for me and now the blade chipped.I do have another one I did buy it 8 years ago from different seller and still working well with no issues at all.2Very SmallI'm not sure what I am going to do with this. It is basically a regular table fork with a wooden handle. I thought it would be larger. I feel like I have been cheated, all pictures and the description led me to believe that this would be similar to the old fashioned serving forks with wooden handles, not a miniature version. It's not worth my time returning this, so I guess I will keep it and try to find a use for it.2Great cooking forkI have a similar cooking fork that I bought 20 years ago and wanted a second. After searching the normal cooking stores, I could not find them locally so I went to AMZN. This fork is identical to the one I have owned for 20-years. One comment however, the wood handle is very dry and owners should treat it with mineral oil until it has the finish they like. This could take several weeks and then periodic oiling for the year until the wood develops a nice finish and loses it's dry touch. I expect this fork will outlast me!5Not as picturedI was looking for a straight bayonet style fork as shown in the picture, but instead got a curved granny fork style like this https://www.amazon.com/Dexter-Russell-S2896PCP-Traditional-Carver/dp/B002C81R3W Aside from the model number "S118" stamped on the handle this is completely identical to the cheaper "S2896PCP". This will be getting returned tomorrow, because while I really wanted a nice short bayonet 'cutlet' fork for turning meat, paying a premium for a different fork that I didn't want just isn't going to happen.1Great feel and balance. For years, I have looked for a wooden handled two-tine fork like the one my grandmother had and passed on to my mother and then she to me. Never found one in kitchen stores, so I tried Amazon, and my search netted this fork, which clearly earns its name in my home. When it arrived, the wood was not really smooth, like the one I had which was worn smooth with years of use, so I took the new fork to my workshop and applied light sanding and finished with steel wool and olive oil. Fabulous! Great balance and feel. Perfect for food prep, cooking, meat carving, etc. love this fork which is now a basic tool in out kitchen.5Arrived damaged Arrived in an undamaged box...but the spatula was bent like an edge got caught on something and crimped it. I can fix it by hammering it flat so ill just keep it...however...the review stars will reflect my experience. It was obviously packed at amazon already damaged...it did not happen enroute to me. 1Nice quick pick fork. It is smaller than I thought but still works great.Nice little girl for grabbing meat off a plate or grill. It was smaller that I expected, but the larger size was too large. Wish there was an in between size. Still does the job though.4
