Poorly made, unfinished...This knife is poorly finished. The scales are just cut slabs that they didn t even round off one bit. Due to this it is very uncomfortable to handle because of the sharp edges.1You get what you pay for, and this is a relatively cheap knifeI just received my order and just from taking it out of the box, I saw a lot of imperfections. The handles on the knife itself pretty much seemed unfinished with little fibers like plastic hanging off the corners, and chunks of plastic around the pins from I'm guessing when they either drilled or punched the pins through. The handles them self have really sharp edges, which makes it not that comfortable to hold. And weird circle marks near where the hinge is, in guessing when they stamped out the handle they weren't sure where to put the hinge and stamped down a couple of times. And the last problem is there are gaps and dark spots between the liners, the lock back, and the scales. To be honest for this price point I didn't expect an amazing knife for 10$, but I atleast wanted it to look clean I basically have no problems with the knife blade itself, no rust, but not all that sharp. Was easily sharpened to a razor edge with a ceramic sharpening rod though. Most of the problems I stated with knife can be fixed with a bit of sand paper and know how, but the gaps in the brass liner. I'm too lazy to go through the effort to return this, but I can't say that I would recommend this knife, and you might as well pay a little bit more for a better knife.I bought both this version and the smaller version which also had its own issues.3Very sharp Sharp long blade, but not real tight when open. 4Unusual size and shape, purpose madePart of my knife collection is special use knives, I have a Spanish style version of a fruit knife now this good USA version, for a knife as long and thin as it is it is quite solid, I wouldn't use it for heavy use but perfect for its purpose, cool addition to the special use knife section of my collection.5I LIKE THIS ONE! Good Buy! Opens and closes with a snap and there is not any blade wiggle. The blade says (Razor Blade Stainless) and it comes sharp right from the box.The knife is brass lined and is put together with brass pins.If you want a long slim folding knife, this one would be hard to beat. 4Unfinished waste of moneyTo start out with I was given a antique version for Christmas gift so when I saw this other one advertised I decided to order it.Horrible!!!Don t waste your money. It appears it was rushed through the manufacturing process, boxed up And shipped out the door.Sharp edges on the outside. It s an embarrassment onto itself.Crude looking rivets.A few more manufacturing steps and it would ve been decent ; but it hasn t reached that point.1Good Schrade quality I bought this knife because my other fruit knife or what ever you want to call them was getting to the point it was real wiggly,it wasn't a schrade. I like to open my mail or just my go to knife when the need arises. Keep it on my kitchen table in my pencil holder... 5Schrade SS105 vs SZCO Alabaster I own these knives and have posted the same review for both of them. Four stars for SZCO; five for the Schrade. These are cheaply made knives so don't expect them to be Ka-Bar, Kershaw or Morakniv quality. They're designed for their price point. Both knives are very sharp right out of the box. The Schrade is immediately noticeably heavier. The blades are substantially different: the Schrade is wider and a bit thicker with a more substantial drop point. The SZCO has more of a pin point on its blade and is noticeably narrower. Rivets and their applications are similarly placed but attention to detail goes to the Schrade model: rivets are more robust, less crude and placed more accurately. Rivets on both knives have edges that will snag. The cam spring lock is more stable on the Schrade and the knife opens much more smoothly. The SZCO knife cam mechanism is very stiff even with lubricationThese are both very cheap knives not designed for a lot of abuse.. Not sure which is the knock-off but it does seem that the SZCO is a high-production copy of the Schrade. Both will do their intended job. The nylon sheath is a nice addition to the SZCO but should not be a deal breaker. Neither knife is very high quality construction but the Schrade is a far better knife for an additional three bucks.I don't intend to sample fruit with these. Cleanly removing the colon from a deer during field dressing is always awkward even with a Butt Out tool. These knives will reach further into the animal to sever most sinew so that the entire digestive system can be removed from inside the animal without feces spillage or having to tie anything off. 5SS105I wish this knife had a lock it would have been my favorite knife. Also i was supper disappointed how badly the was sharpened, it said razor sharp but seemed pretty dull to me.3A great gentlemen's knifeWhat a very distinguishing looking knife very well constructed 10 1/2 inch open ha that's great for my work habits sharp as it needs to be slim size does the job to bad I bought it with out the case oh well great knife highly recommend5Good fruit knife for the priceReminds me somewhat of the Imperial fruit knife I had in 1983, of course then Imperial was made in Ireland and better quality. Just the same, it isn't bad. I got it to keep in my desk for fruit or lunch items that need to be cut. Also would be a good letter opener, or a knife to take on a picnic - to cut bread, cheese, etc. The backspring could be a bit stronger, though it holds okay. Also, like many Chinese knives (and despite the "razor blade stainless" etching on the blade), this knife's edge is not good out of the box. A couple of minutes on my Arkansas stones and it was quite sharp though, the steel is decent. Used to be knives came very sharp when brand new, but oh well. The handle scales are decently thick for a knife of this type, with brass liners and pins. There is nearly no side-to-side blade wobble and everything is tight. It is a light-duty sampling knife, and for this purpose and other light uses it should be fine. For 8 dollars and some change, I am happy with this purchase.4A hard-to-find item is finally been found I used one of these thirty years ago when I was working in the grocery business. Been looking for one ever since. Exactly what I was looking for minus the wear and tear 5Awesome new knifeI was interested in this style of knife due to admiring a coworkers knife he carried in his lunch bucket everyday. He got his produce knife while working for a large food distributor here in Kansas City Kansas. The warehouse produce testers carried these knifes to test the quality of produce coming and going daily. When ken retired he requested one of the knifes and said it has been one of his favorite things ever since. I have to agree. I bought mine mostly for camping and cooking out on the grill. The knife is razor sharp and and a nice size so that is can be very versatile. What a great purchase.5Great for cutting fruit at work, really! This knife was cheap so I decided to try it. I eat a lot of apples and oranges at work, keep it in my desk and it really does make cutting fruit easier, I can go all the way through without spinning the fruit. Not a great steel, not a big easy to hold handle because it would be unwieldy, but works really good for task.5WAY, WAY, BETTER than I was expecting!Utilitarian. Stark. No decoration or inlay. The sides have not been factory "pocket worn" but it's sharp as a razor (dry shave sharp) right out of the box. I was wanting an abalone kissing crane. Sold out. So I thought I would trust the reviewers and go for it. I got two of these knives, one for me. One for a gift. So if they were bad I was just out of luck! BUT! Wow...okay, my grandpa taught me the three things to look for on a good knife. It didn't matter what name was on it. First check the handles;try as hard as you can to get a bolster tack or anything to move. If it wiggled , no good ..2) the blade, obviously you don't want cheap metal, but check to see if it wobbles from side to side, if it wiggled, no good. 3) the spring. It should snap shut when the knife is a half inch or so from closing. THIS KNIFE PASSED ALL THE TESTS WITH FLYING COLORS!! Tight. Sharp. On a scale of one to ten, I give it an eight and a half...Now, why not a nine? Or ten? It is a long blade, so be careful because simple physics of a blade that long will close on your knuckles easily IF you try to poke or use it stupidly. It would have been a ten with a lock blade. But I am very happy over all. And the price is a steal!5
