Great, but better value out thereI absolutely LOVE my Kuhn Rikon garlic press, so when it came time to buy a julienne peeler it was a no brainer for me. Buy their peeler. And so I bought one about a year ago and happily used it without issue.Recently I was offered a review copy of the Pridebit julienne peeler. There are a number of peelers like the Pridebit that all look the same (just search for julienne peeler and look at all the clones). Having used them both now it seems like there is no major difference, and hence no real reason to pay more for the Kuhn Rikon peeler. The nice thing actually about the other 'generic' peelers is that the blade is mounted closer to the top, so it's easier to peel large vegetables. The Kuhn Rikon peeler blade sits inset from the top about 3mm or so. The attached photo shows the difference.That all said, my Kuhn Rikon blade is still pretty sharp after a year of use. It's hard to say if the other peeler will hold up as well. I'll update my review on both these products if I notice a difference, but for now I don't think it's necessary to pay more for this unit.4Ain't What it Used to Be.I first bought this masher in 2012 it has performed very well over the years. I purchased it again for my girlfriend and the new one is a far cry from the original in terms of ergonomics. The 2012 version is much more comfortable to use because the barrel is way larger. The new one starts to feel uncomfortable after a few minutes of use.1Spaghetti Zucchini here I comeWell while taking a nutrition class one evening I was introduced to a Julienne Peeler. I thought at the time, so that is how they make those strings of carrot and zucchini spaghetti!! So, the next day I order this one. It is probably one of the most useful cooking tools I've purchased in a long time.It is great for carrots for a salad or to hide carrots and/or squash in meat balls. The grand child doesn't realize the vegetables have dared to become part of his favorite meal, spaghetti and meat balls.I'm going to try using it on sweet potatoes next. I'm thinking sweet potato cakes or miniature curly fries.The tool cleans up easily and it's small size makes it easy to store and keep handy. The blade protector is an added bonus to help keep me away from the blade so, for me, it's really a hand protector. The peeler feels substantial in my hands and the weight means less pressure to do the peeling.Never knew how much I was missing by not having this tool.5Not what I expected, seen cheaper ones that work betterReviews seemed really good for this julienne peeler, but after working with it, it does not work as how I expected. Seems like you have to push really hard and I worry about cutting myself because the blade protector isn't the greatest. Doesn't julienne carrots completely where its left carrot pieces in lines and does not separate them from one another. Was not impressed because I've seen cheaper and easier to use tools in my mother's kitchen. Don't waste your money.3My favorite tool in the kitchen!A must have! But if you are looking for stringy noodle like carrots instead of crunchy matchsticks this might be for you.3well built Majority of other Julienne Peelers out there have the slicing knife foil attached in a way that interferes with the cutting and veggies tend to stuck under it.This peeler is well built, the slicing knifes foil is attached at the correct side - no way for veggies to stick here!Resulting strips are on a thinner side - good for salads, mostly too thin for stir-fries.Apparently the vendor may want to consider making these in at least 3 different sizes...Also I find plate-mounted julienne slicers to be more efficient for the purpose,e.g. - going to buy and give it a try now. 4Poor ValueWorked great for the first few uses and it was a time saver when I made an Asian green papaya salad. However, after using four times the serrated blade seemed to separate from the slicer blade and it did not slice all the way through. I ended up with thin sheets of broccoli with lines where the serrated blade did not cut through. I had to use a knife to finish cutting the broccoli into strands. If I could do it over, I would not get this pricey gadget, but rather I'd buy a much lower-priced julienne peeler.2Won't replace your traditional julienner.I was looking for an alternative to a traditional julienner for julienning harder root vegetables (like asian daikon). Well, it worked okay for the first few swipes but then it quickly got jammed and I wasn't able to peel without clearing it out. It ended up taking more effort and longer to julienne with this gadget. So, for harder vegetables, perhaps sticking with the traditional julienner works better, especially if you have a big julienne job. Otherwise, for small quick jobs or for softer veggies, this does the job nicely.3So when it came to a julienne peelers I did a lot of research to find one that was safe and easy to use and doing my homework paid offI am very afraid of mandolins, peelers and slices, etc. So when it came to a julienne peelers I did a lot of research to find one that was safe and easy to use and doing my homework paid off. This peeler is easy to use and safe (assuming that you are careful too when using it). it has a cover for the cutting part so storage is safe too. Washing is easy by hand or dishwasher. It is all stainless steel so I don't expect it is going to rust. the handle is very comfortable on the hand too. I have used it on soft vegetables like zucchini and hard vegetables like green papaya and it worked great.5
