Love it I love to cook and know the value of owning a couple of cast iron pans. I have a good ole' old-fashion pan and dutch oven. However, I grew tired of having to clean them after each use along with all the other stuff I have to do to them on occasion (seasoning). So I thought I'd invest in an enameled cast iron dish and I LOVE IT! It is easier to clean and (shhh! Don't tell anyone) but I even opted out of cleaning it after using it to cook dinner one time. The next day I cleaned it and it looked as good as new...no rust...no re-seasoning...no nothing! It's my new go to pan. 5Arrived Defective, Enamel chipped off pan, leaving exposed cast iron. Unattractive and defective.Just received the Enameled Cast Iron Covered pan today, but I'm returning it. The blue enamel was completely chipped off one side of the pan, the enamel chips in chunks and small pieces in the packaging. The packaging itself was intact, so it wasn't a clear case of packaging mishap in spite of the coating on the pan falling off.. I am not re-ordering. I read other bad reviews about the coating on this pan before I ordered, but ignored them because I have another Lodge pan (dutch oven) that is great. I may go for one of the more expensive brands instead Lodge for this item.1Chip after one useI received these cast iron casserole dishes 2 days before Thanksgiving. I used them both in the oven with temperature at 350 degrees. Both dishes had enamel chip off the handle and opening. Very disappointed.3this has become my workhorse potI bought this along with the Lodge 4.5 qt dutch oven, and I have found that I use it much more than the dutch oven- 3 times a week on both the stovetop or in the oven. The pot arrived in perfect condition with no dents or chips in the enamel. The surface is textured rather than mirror smooth, and it does not affect the quality of the food being cooked or the ease in cleaning. I always oil the entire inside before adding cooking oil, and wait until the pot is completely cool before cleaning it, and eveything from risotto to oven-baked orzo has come off perfectly. I like the pot because it is heavy so it doesn't shift on the stovetop, and everything cooks evenly without burning. I have a slow oven, and this has cut off about 5-10 minutes of cooking time depending on the dish. I have two sheet pan cookbooks, and I cook the recipes in this pot because it has a lid and the enamel over cast iron cooks better than heavy aluminum sheet pans. I wish I had bought this pot years ago.5Best cookware you will ownWorks like a charm non stick yet crisps up whatever you want to fry. Braising and steaming is done in a snap. Just a pat of butter will fry your eggs exactly the way you want them. Works on chicken fried steak, brussel sprouts, rice, corn, ribs, onions and you can finish it off in the oven if needed. Potatoes fry up crispy in a snap!Clean up is a dream little soak can help and it scrubs easily with a soft sponge scrubber not steel wool. No metal spatulas either.Preheating IS necessary for this pan so be sure to allow a little extra time before adding food. I ve used cast iron my whole adult life and this one with the non-stick lining is the cats meow. If on your stovetop turn off the heat about 15 minutes prior to finishing iron retains heat a long time.Don t put it in the sink & add water to soak till it has cooled a bit. Just a precaution. No need to season the pan with lard as I do for my grandmothers pans for the inner coating on this one does the job all on its own. Best pan I have use it often.This will be your go to pan, trust me.Only down side is the weight. It IS heavy or maybe because I am an old lady. Enjoy. Peace.5My favorite piece of cookware--absolutely.SUCH a great casserole; a joy to cook with, is virtually non-stick, browns beautifully, and is very durable. I used it regularly for more than a year, and it still looks brand-new. We do hand-wash, because it's just so easy, and I want it to last forever. It IS extremely heavy (which I knew beforehand) but is my favorite pan; large and roomy to make a meal now and freeze the rest for later.5Great purchaseLove this pan. Couldn't have ask for anything better. Great price. A pleasure to use. Easy clean up.5Lodge Enameled Cast Iron Covered Casserole Does not Disappoint! OK, I got this casserole instead of the LC. I have wanted LC for quite some time, but they were cost prohibitive. So after much research, I decided to try the Lodge Enameled Cast Iron Covered Casserole. I prepared some chicken in the casserole, and I immediately noticed the chicken's appearance was delicious. The chicken was cooked thoroughly, and it was so tender and juicy! The clean up was a cinch as well. I am very pleased and would recommend this to anyone! It is nice to have such a high quality product at an affordable, fair price. 5Excellent pan, but not super durableI originally bought this pan about a year ago and have loved it. It's a great size for one-dish meals and performs, as far as I can tell, as well as any of my more expensive enameled cast iron cookware. However, it's not super durable. I moved cross-country a few months ago and it developed big chips in the enamel despite careful packing (padded it, wrapped it tightly, and kept it in my car with me rather than shipping it). My larger enameled cast iron pot (different brand) was packed the same way and was fine. I'm still giving it 4 stars as here I am buying another one because I liked it so much.4Move over Le CruesetI was seriously contemplating whether or not to buy a Le Crueset braiser as a gift for my husband. I started researching review online and saw so many positive reviews for Lodge that I just couldn't resist giving it a shot. After all, the price point is much more affordable than the Le Crueset.I LOVE this braiser. Even though it was a gift for my husband, it's obviously something we both use when cooking. I bought it around the holidays and we've used it so much! Everything from bacon, to taco meat, to coq au vin.Cleanup is super easy and the braiser is a really nice size to make storage easy. Do not spend $400 on a braiser when you can get the same quality from Lodge. LOVE IT.5Bumpy beginning but excellent outcome!The first covered casserole I received had a bulge on the bottom and would not set flat on the burner. I called lodge to see if that was normal and they told me it should set flat, and recommended that I return it. The second casserole I received was perfect! It works wonderfully well as an open or covered skillet as well as it's intended purpose of a casserole. I washed it thoroughly and applied a small amount of oil or butter before using it. Eggs, potatoes, pancakes, caramelizing onions, and etc., cook great and do not stick. It is fantastic for braising and browning on top of the stove as well as baking in the oven. This is a great pan to use all of the time and can be used to cook anything. It is a beautiful color, very well made and very good quality just like my Lodge enameled 6 qt. Dutch Oven that I use all the time for stews and chilies. The size is very convenient for two people. I don't think you can go wrong with this pan. Update: 05/05/2016.......I use this covered casserole all of the time, not only for casseroles, chili, soups, stews, etc., but also for bacon, eggs, sauteed foods, and a myriad of other tasks! Recently, i misjudged how much room I needed to add the potatoes on top of my shepherds pie. The results cooked over quite messily in my oven. This was the biggest test so far for my pan. I thought I was going to have to get my Scrub Daddy out and go to work on it! Wow, after soaking the empty pan in warm, soapy water for 5 minutes, it came out looking brand new! I am so impressed! Nothing I have cooked in this pan has stuck AND it cooks everything just great! Another benefit is that after baking in the oven, the pan keeps everything much hotter for a longer period of time! This is one fantastic pan!!!!5Don't order if you want it to be a surpriseThis was ordered for my wife for a Christmas present. It was shipped in it's original box that says exactly what is on the inside and of course she was the one who answered the door when it was delivered. Even Alexa says she won't announce messages until after the holiday so as to not spoil surprises. (I on't know why that's restricted to holidays, but at least they do that) May not be fair to blame the manufacturer, but this is the only place for a review.1Chipped after only 3 months left it unusable I loved this pan when it first arrived, so much so that it's home was on my stovetop as it was the main pan I used daily. It was easy to clean and I really liked the kind of cook I got on my food. BUT, I was very disappointed when the enamel started peeling off only 3 months after purchase. I always hand washed and never used metal utensils, it just started peeling while I was cooking. Would like to return but it's out of the return time. I own quite a few Lodge traditional cast iron pots and pans so thought why not try this (at close to 1/4 the price).I read other reviews that said to carefully check the quality as the QC may not be as good, so I did. Ours was perfect, no imperfections at all, and I prefer the finish of the Lodge. One difference between this and a Le Creuset is the handle requires a pot holder right out of the oven but really, who grabs any handle out of the oven without a mitt or pot holder.Need a braiser? Best value on the market. I immediately ordered a Lodge Dutch Oven for our daughter after being so pleased with this! 5
