Customer Reviews

Worked perfectlyExactly what we needed to prop open our heavy doors! We put one on our front door and one on our door to the garage. I was surprised how easily they kicked down and back up with just a nudge from your foot and yet they stay in place when up and do very well to deep the door open when down. Makes carrying groceries in so much easier!! 5Nice kickdownWorks great. But like someone else mentioned, the included screws are a set of wood screws for a solid wood door, and a set of metal screws for a metal skinned door. But if you want to install this on a hollow core door, then it is best to get self-tapping screws for hollow core door. If you use the wood screws in a hollow core door, eventually the holes in the door will strip out and the screws and kickdown will fall off. I have this on a hollow core door with self-tapping screws, and it works good for now. But I can tell that on a hollow core door if someone it really abusing this and kicking it down hard, it isn't going to last, it's eventually going to rip out of the door. 4Great door stopI needed this for my garage door, since we often have our hands full when going in or out that door. This thing has been wonderful, especially when we had to remove some old appliances and bring new ones in. It only took about 5 minutes to install and it works great. It's easy to put down and back up with your foot, so no bending down is needed. It also looks pretty nice, even though it's rarely actually visible.Definitely recommend this for anyone who regularly needs the door held open for things. 5Updated: doesn't last, poor metal strengthGood price, quick delivery, all as expected.Update: after 1 year of use, all 3 kickdown door holders are coming apart - the bracket is separating so that the pivot pin comes out. The metal is not strong enough for regular use. Note: these were to replace units that were in place for over 30 years, but had to be replaced since the rubber feet wore out. To have something fall apart after a year is unbelievable. 1THESE DO NOT WORK! SLIDE ACROSS ANY SURFACE! WHAT'S THE POINT?I have used these types of door props for years, and never had a problem. So I got four of this brand, to keep my iRobot Roomba from knocking doors shut and getting trapped in a room. I installed these the same way I always have, checking the angle to make sure the prop touched the floor flat, and not at all angled. Yet, it slides when in a flat down position, both on linoleum and carpet. The tips are slick hard plastic, and not rubber, so they have absolutely NO GRAB no matter what! 2Not really adaptable to many door types. This was sort of a wash. I bought them hoping to install them on my security screen doors. However, the edge of the door is too narrow for the stop to clear the edge of the jamb. So now I have a few holes in the bottom of the screen door that I will have to patch and maintain going forward.Fortunately, I was able to use them on the regular door and they work well but are a bit stiff to kick down. 3Solid construction and very effectiveContruction:It is sturdy and well made. All solid metal. The foot works on my concrete floors. It holds a solid wood door that is about 8 feet tall and 42 inches wide that has an automatic closure.Tips for installation:To ensure the stopper is installed at the right height, here are some tips.- Open the door to the position you intend on using the stopper the most. This ensures you account for different floor material/height.- Put the stopper in the stopping position (in the down position).- Put the stopper against the door and slide it down until the foot hits the floor.- Mark your holes.- But instead of drilling dead center to the mounting holes, drill about 1/16-1/8 BELOW the center of the hole. This ensures when the stopper comes down, it can get a good bite against the floor. Mine is used on a concrete floor. If you have carpet, depending on the thickness, just make sure to account for that. You might have to go a little farther down, but that depends on how much pressure you used earlier when you slid the stopper down into the carpet before you did the marking.Hope this helps. 5Do not work on hard wood or tileI tried 3 angles: flat, and tipped toward and away from the door. The door stop just does not work. The foot is a hard plastic with no grip. Another review mentioned it wouldn't work on carpet either, so be careful. If I wedged the foot just right, it would hold the door, but a light touch of the door would loosen the foot and the door shuts. I am returning the 2 stops I purchased and will try something else. 1MUCH better than wedge door stops. This door stopped worked better than I thought it would. We struggled with a plastic wedge doorstop for many years because it was not attached to the door and would get misplaced; and even if it was in it's regular storage spot it took at least 15-20 seconds and two hands to get it and prop the house-garage door open. When we move to a new house the house-garage door had a larger gap between the door and floor and the old wedge wasn't big enough. I was shopping for a larger wedge when Amazon suggested this kickdown door stop. It is SO much better. It is attached to the door and can be engaged and disengaged with one foot while your hands are full of stuff. The only thing to be careful of is to make sure you attach the kickdown to the door so that the rubber or plastic tip contacts the floor in the right spot. If you position the kickdown too high or too low on the door, the tip won't meet the floor at the correct angle for maximum hold. However, that position is not too difficult to determine. And the price is great. 5Decent depending on the application. The hardware is nice and solid, but the rubber stopper is pretty hard. It slides fairly easily on the concrete floor in my garage. I guess it would be fine on a rougher surface, but I'm going to replace the rubber stopper soon. There's a cheaper one at Home Depot that has similar quality and construction with a soft grippy stopper. I'd recommend that one instead. 3
