Customer Reviews

Upon receipt my wife ran these through the dishwasher. ... Upon receipt my wife ran these through the dishwasher. After washing she pulled them out and discovered the non stick film had come off leaving a big rust spot. Maybe the manufacturer thinks they're food safe, but not us!! 1Marvelous for portion control I bought these lovely little pans to give myself a way to make a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving and still keep a grip on how much I ended up eating, and they did the job perfectly. The four pans together hold the same amount of filling as one 9-inch pie, so each represents a quarter of a whole pie. That's a generous two pieces of pie in each pan, and it makes you feel quite special to have your own little pie. In addition, having separate pans means you can tinker with each one to fit the person -- with or without crust, with or without nuts or fruit, and so on.The small size also means I can bake these little pies (or large tarts) in the toaster oven instead of the large oven, which of course saves energy. And as an added bonus, the nonstick made washing them much easier than the glass pie pans I use for large pies.I'm completely sold on this little cuties. All my pies get the mini treatment from now on. 5Handy, durable, and well made! Absolutely love these! Now that my daughter is away at school, I'm usually cooking for one. This size is perfect for that purpose, and can be used to make both dessert pies and savory pies.A few weeks ago I began a little project; creating a bunch of single-serving meals to stock my freezer. These mini pie pans came in quite handy for my project!Last week I made four Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza "Pie(s)": I began with a layer of shredded mozzarella, added about 2 T. pizza sauce on top of the cheese, then some grated Parmesan Reggiano, followed by cooked, crumbled, hot Italian sausage. Another sauce/cheeses layer, followed by sliced mini pepperoni, then another sauce/cheeses layer. Finally, sliced black olives, topped with a bit more grated Parmesan Reggiano. I added the top crusts, cut vent holes, and put them into the freezer, uncovered.I let them freeze overnight, then removed the frozen pies from their pans. I wrapped each one in heavy duty foil, then slipped them into individual 1-qt freezer zipper bags. Finally, back into the freezer they went. When it's time to cook, and eat, a frozen mini-pie, you just remove the pie from the bag, unwrap it, and put it back into one of the mini pie pans. Bake it in the oven from frozen. Usually I'll protect the edge with a narrow strip of foil, which I remove 15-20 minutes before the pie is done to aid browning.Fast, delicious, and tasty!I do not put these into the dishwasher to clean. They're non-stick, so they can be quickly handwashed and dried in minutes. I don't put any of my bakeware in the dishwasher. Automatic dishwashing detergents are harsh (they have to be), and despite what I told my daughter when she was a four year old, there isn't a family of tiny people living in there that runs out carrying miniature brushes, sponges, and squeegees with which to scrub off the gunk left on your dishes, when you close the dishwasher door and push "start."No, the detergent does most of the work, and it has to be really strong stuff to clean whatever you put in there (often food residue that's baked on or dried out). Over time, that detergent can make clear plastic turn cloudy and weaken it, and metals (like the types used to make bakeware) may become pitted and/or get scratched (usually those scratches are from other items in the dishwasher knocking against them from the force of the water in the wash or rinse cycles). That pitting and those scratches can destroy a non-stick coating; on bakeware that isn't non-stick, they can cause baked goods *to* stick, even when you prep the pans properly. So, I take good care of my bakeware by handwashing, to avoid pitting and scratches, so they'll continue to perform well and last many years! 5NOT 5 inches! When I buy a 9 inch cake pan it makes a 9 inch cake round, etc. These will NOT make a 5 inch pot pie. See picture. Man I just HATE being lied too! 1DISAPPOINTED NORPRO???? REALLY NOW... These arrived and I washed them all. I buy Norpro bake ware without a problem.However.....on one of these the entire outside finish came off and the metal itself was pitted. It peeled off in multiple layers. NOT GOOD, NOT HEALTHY. 1Perfect size These were EXACTLY what I wanted and needed to make my Australian meat pies. They are the perfect size for individual servings and are truly non-stick. Great product. 5I would recommend, with some explanation I ordered three sets. Yes, 12 of them. I cook for myself only. I do a lot of chicken and turkey pot pies and freeze them. I also like to do individual quiches and dessert pies and freeze. The tins are not as deep as I had hoped. They would make a perfect pot pie for a child, and a lunch pie for me, but not a dinner pie. I'll continue to use my ramekins for pot pies. However, these are absolutely perfect for quiches and dessert pies. I did eight little pumpkin pies and froze them, after baking. I've done crumb crust apple pie and double crust apple pies. I freeze them raw and take them from the freezer directly to the toaster oven to bake. Hot apple pie whenever I want.Filling your freezer is great for unexpected company. I can quickly bake a pot pie, reheat a quiche, bake an apple pie or defrost pumpkin pie.The non-stick surface of these tins is wonderful. When freezing apple pies or pot pies, that are unbaked, I wrap and freeze them in the tin, then bake them when I want one. For quiches, and pumpkin pies, that are baked, then frozen, they come out of the tin beautifully, when cooled, then I either put them in a container to freeze or wrap them and freeze. 4Two more sets next time. I am a big fan of small pot pies, and with these, I can make what I want: curry pot pies, chile con-carne pot pies, calzone pot pies, bacon, sauerkraut & onion pot pies, etc. Things nobody sells at supermarkets, in other words. These are fairly heavy-gauge steel tins, and will produce exactly the same five-inch diameter size as the supermarket freezer case pot pies.I intend to use croissant dough of the type sold in cardboard tubes from the supermarket refrigerated section for the crusts. That should be pretty good!In retrospect, I should have bought at least one other set of four, perhaps two additional sets. 5These have a raised Logo "NORPRO" in the center of the inside. These have a raised Logo "NORPRO" in the center of the inside. This makes it hard to scrape and clean. It will collect food and bacteria. It's a shame they did this as they look to be made well. Item description and photos do not show this as if it did I would have never purchased. 1There's nothing quite like mini foods I had initially bought these to be used at Thanksgiving, but they turned into an obsession that transgressed all holidays. Not only can these be used for adorable desserts, but they make fantastic single serve pot pies! You can even prepare them ahead of time, store them in the freezer overnight and bake them fresh the next day. So much better than a Lean Cuisine. At first glance, you wonder how much filling you'll be able to get into your pie. It looks fairly small and, once your crust is in, you feel like there's not much space left. However, it holds much more than you would initially believe. Even with a top and bottom crust, I got the perfect amount of pot pie filling in these.I can't wait to see what else I can do with these! 5
