Customer Reviews

Update: I was able to make it stick to the wall a bit longerUpdate:I originally gave this product a three star review because of one problem that I had. I couldn't get it to hang up on anything. I'm now embarrassed to say that I figured out my mistake. The stopper originally didn't seem to hang for longer than a 5 minutes. Now I have realized that if I get it wet inside the suction cup before applying I can get it to stick for about a day and a half. Would prefer to give this stars. Too bad that it isn't an option.Original:This is a product that I liked but don't love. I think that it works well and serves its purpose as a drain stop. However the main reason that I bought this item over one that was a few dollars cheaper is because it could be hung on the bath tile or even on the side of the bathtub. This seemed ideal over having it take up space (and mold) sitting on the corner of the bathtub. Unfortunately the metal stop in the middle of the product that allows it to be so effective also adds weight. Enough weight that it will fall withing five minutes of being hung up. I don't have any plans of returning this product because it is still effective as a tub stopper. I will keep using it and update you on anything 3Works Great when nothing else would!I kept buying replacement drain seals for our bath tub from the local hardware stores, buying the style that screws in and you press with your foot to pop up and down. I went through 4 that broke or didn't seal right and finally bought this. I didn't trust it from the photos but the reviews were good and it was cheaper than buying another pop style from the store so I gave it a shot. It works great!!! No leakage at all, high quality, looks nice and easy to clean. The little suction cup to keep it in position (or store it on the side of the tub between baths) is a great feature too. I highly recommend it and wish I'd bought it sooner! 5Great stopper. Recommend highly.I love to take a bath and I bought this to use in my apartment tub, which isn't fitted with a stopper. This stopper works amazingly well!!!How it works: it's basically a piece of gray slightly floppy plastic with a metal disk on the top side to weight it down. The plastic lays flat over the drain and competitive stops the water draining.Pros: the stopper goes over the drain not within it so you don't need to worry about fitting the exact size of your drain. This also allows the stopper to be used in multiple locations. Also, because it doesn't form a suction with the tub I don't think these's any risk of damage to your tub. Last, when it time comes to let the water out you just peel off the stopper.Cons. None that I can think of. I guess the grey color is a bit dull but it's hard to care about the color of a stopper!!! 5So far so good!I'm trying to get into liking baths as a way to relax, and I realized that my bathroom with a tub did not have a stopper, so I ordered this item. The pressure of the water does seem to keep the stopper on the drain, and I had no problems taking my bath. I could hear a little bit of leakage down the drain, but it wasn't enough to impact the water level or my bath time. It does exactly what it says it will do! I've only used it once, so for now I'm giving it 5 stars for durability and ease of cleaning, but that may change over time. 5This does a good job but if it isn't set just right it ...This does a good job but if it isn't set just right it will let a bit of water trickle by. Just make sure it centered properly on the drain then press on the suction cup and you will have good results. 4This OXO good grips Tub stopper works very well for our old ...This OXO good grips Tub stopper works very well for our old bathtub. It currently has NOTHING to stop the water and we like to take baths every once in a while. This is a very good alternative to the one I was previously using (it got super moldy and gross and would fall apart). This is a very simple yet usable design. It has a little suction cup to try to stop it from moving around, but it doesn't always work. I would suggest holding it down until it gets a good seal then you can just let it go and let the tub fill up. Overall, I'm pleased with this stopper. It does the job it needs to do and I like that it's only ONE piece. 4Does its main job well, but the minor issues add upI'm usually a fan of OXO, but this tub stopper doesn't quite deliver like I'd hoped. This tub stopper is big. Bigger than I expected. And that's a good thing. Its size allows a wider surface for it to create a seal with and makes the whole thing seem less protruding when in the tub. The silicone material it is made from seems high quality, being flexible, durable, and soft. Like most OXO products, it feels like it is well-made. In terms of actually stopping the tub, it does a pretty good job. Left alone, it seems to create a seal easily regardless of water temperature, soap residue, etc.Unfortunately, tub stoppers are not just left alone. People (and pets) move around in a tub and the stopper is going to get bumped. When that happens, this tub stopper doesn't always stay in place. With tub stoppers you would rather a seal that is too strong than too weak, and sadly, this stopper creates a fairly weak seal. Getting it back into place is admittedly very easy, but having to reposition it every time you (or a pet you're bathing) move is frustrating. Another minor annoyance is that the suction cup doesn't actually work very well at storing the device on a wall or other surface when not in use. This really wasn't an issue for me, but it is something to be aware of.Overall this product is a rare miss for OXO. While it does its main job well, the little frustrations add up and you might be better off looking elsewhere for a tub stopper. 3We live in a tall building, our shower drain ...We live in a tall building, our shower drain seemed to be the place the floors above got air when their flushed... gave us their odors. This is heavy enough and seals tight over the OXO shower drain cover to keep that from happening. Very handy suction cup on the thumb tab to stick on our tile, glass shower doors, or even the plate around the water knobs while needing to drain. It will not drain when it's in place... 5The suction cup to hang it up to dry is ...The suction cup to hang it up to dry is not very strong. It will dry out and fall from the side of the tub. Not a big deal, but something to be noted. Additionally, because of my faucet's placement in regards to the drain, the water coming from the faucet hits the edge of this stopper actually causing the silicone to float up. I have to hold it down while the water is filling in the tub because of this interference from the flowing water. Once the tub is filled the stopper does its job. 3Doesn't work that well...better than nothing, but that's about the best I could say about itSounded great, but doesn't stay down flat when the tub is filled (I had significant leakage, meaning I needed to run the water almost constantly at a low flow just to keep it filled during the bath). I've tried it two different ways:1 with the original drain stopper completely removed, leaving a simple open drain hole. This worked the worst...the OXO silicone would not stay down across the drain hole by itself (despite it being the right size) -- no matter what I tried -- and this is why I had to keep running (or turning on/off) the water to keep the tub filled.2. With the original tub stopper replaced, and using the OXO stopper on top of that (the original stopper still works, and goes up and down by turning the drain knob, but never kept a tight seal (even when new), causing me to use water repeatedly to refill the tub during baths, and thus the reason I bought the OXO). With a bit of effort, I was able to achieve a tight seal with the OXO (by turning the drain knob and lifting the original stopper just a small amount -- creating a suction downward that held the OXO silicone in place - and then lowering it again) Unfortunately, this method requires checking the stopper every 5-10 minutes, and repeating the process all over again (the seal sadly didn't last long...but needing to sit up and fiddle with the drain multiple times during a "relaxing" bath defeats the purpose).I wouldn't buy it knowing what I know now (I thought the OXO version would be better because of the metal center piece (which is just colored plastic or silicone made to look like metal on competitor models), which theoretically should have had the weight to hold the stopper down when there isn't enough of a seal due to drain auction and weight of the water). I think an old fashioned rubber stopper, with a metal ring on top to lift it up (like we had when I was a kid) is the way to go for getting a right seal on a bath drain. 2
