Customer Reviews

LOVE THEM!Since I've got these, these have been my favorite lead pencils since. I love how the pencil has some weight to it when I'm writing, but it's not necessarily heavy. After writing with these, going back to a plastic lead pencil just isn't the same anymore. I've also been using the same lead pencil religiously for 2 years now and it still works as if it was brand new. The only reason I have a need to purchase new ones is because I lost them and someone probably claimed ownership of them because they're that good. However because these are rather expensive, I make sure I always put them away and I've only lost one of them in the past 2 years, whereas if I were using the plastic lead pencils, I would've gone through at least 10. The lead almost never snaps when I'm writing and I sometimes write hard enough to make indentations on the next page. The eraser on the lead pencil is effective, but quite small so I use this lead pencil along with the Pentel Clic Eraser Pencil-Style Grip Eraser, which are easily refillable. When I write or draw, it doesn't feel right anymore unless I'm using this pencil. Definitely worth your money! 5One of the best things in life has not changed.I first started using the P205 in 1972 and was impressed then at the quality, ease of use, and applicability for my professional and private life. This Pentel product has always been my favorite, so I was wary about replacing what I had lost. I am used to seeing quality suffer with each new issue of the same product--not so with Pentel. This is the same pencil I started with decades ago and will never change brands or models. The perfect product for me. This order was shipped from Amazon directly and, as usual, was here a few days later, packed perfectly, and the product was ready for use. I use this pencil to write textbooks as well as any other pencil needs. Highest recommendation for price, product, and supplier. 5Great Pencil ... 6 or 7 StarsThis is an extremely well constructed pencil that I've used for a decade and just bought two more for my wife (one to "lose" and one to "have"). it is easy to operate, and is built like a fortress ... easy to show or hide the lead, has an eraser in the top end, a clip for you geeks with pocket protectors, and is just a fantastic product built in Japan, not China. It holds the lead tight and doesn't let the lead slide/rotate which enables one to rotate the pencil slightly in one's hand to get a sharp, crisp edge for those tiny characters. To me, it is the Rolex and Mercedes of mechanical pencils. Get it ..., you'll love it!!! 5Durable, no-frills drafting pencilI can see why the design of this pencil has not changed since 1970. This is your bare-minimum, no-frills drafting pencil that only promises to work and work efficiently, and upholds that promise for years. The body of the pencil is a very solid plastic, and the clutch of the pencil is metal (seems to be brass? see picture), which is much more durable than the cheap plastic bits that are present in your run-of-the-mill dollar-store mechanical pencil. Pencil lead is advanced a set length on each click, and it is lightweight and comfortable to hold for long periods. Best of all, the pencil is only a few bucks apiece. I'm pretty sure I'll probably lose the pencil first before it breaks on me. The cap of a dried-out Bic pen fits perfectly over the tip, which is super convenient for when I want to travel with it.Item was shipped in a bubble mailer, but it was undamaged when it arrived. 5Best all-around value in 0.5 pencils.I've tried a few different types of 0.5 mechanical pencils - and I find myself coming back to this one again and again. They are admittedly unforgiving when you drop them on the ground; the metal piece at the bottom, out of which the lead comes, can bend after being dropped, causing the lead to break quickly as you advance it, after that happens. But other pencils - more expensive ones - have had their own limitations (lousy erasers; unimpressive plastic housing for a more expensive pencil). And cheaper ones just don't feel satisfactory. I just need to stop dropping these - they are other wise my all-time favorite. 4Great despite some shortcomingsI bought the .5 metallic Blue/Red/Green single pack. I own the .5 regular black version of this mechanical pencil that I've used for 10+ years so I knew what I was getting into.. It's still one of my favorite mechanical pencils to use til this day but that being said there's a few differences. The metallic shine is really apparent so for anyone interested in the color you can check out the pictures. It's pretty vibrant and shiny but not overbearing. I mainly bought the Blue/Red/Green pack so I could add matching color lead to quickly be able to differentiate the colors when drawing. Doing that may be a minor thing to some but it's helpful not getting them mixed up.The build of the metallic colored pencils feels lighter, tighter, and a bit looser in other areas compared to the regular black version. The metallic pencils feels very slightly lighter which I think is a minus because The pencil is already slim so a little more weight to them makes it feel sturdier, but some may like the slighter lighter feel. It could be the fact that the older model's tip that I have is just looser because it's old but the newer metallic ones' metal tip feels tighter when twisted in. Though it should be noted that the tip being loose hasn't ever been a problem in the past though. One improvement I think is that clicking for the lead is bit looser so you could get lead a bit quicker. One drawback is that the metal cover for the eraser is looser, which I don't think is a good thing because those are very easy to lose and taking them off was never a problem. Another change but it's just cosmetic is that the stenciling on the clip is not as deep but isn't a huge deal.Pros:-Nice metallic colors-Sturdy-Same slim feel as the other modelsCons:-On the slightly expensive side-Small and short eraser-No retractable tip-Eraser cover slightly looseFinal thoughts are that overall it feels the same as the old model which is sturdy, has a nice slim feel to it for those who prefer a slimmer build rather than bulky, and will leave you just as satisfied as with the other models in the same line. It's on the more expensive side for a mechanical pencil but if you've bought any other versions of this line before you already know what you're getting yourself into. Despite all the negatives I still really love this line even with the flaws because drawing with it for me just feels right in my hand. There could be improvements made to it but I can live with the way it is. 5They're just OkayThe biggest problem with these is that they aren't high quality, nor are they low quality. These pencils find themselves right in the middle which is actually a bit of a problem. If you don't have the cash for a high quality pencil just get a bunch of low quality pencils. If you have enough cash buy a high quality drafting pencil ranging from $15 to $40.You will enjoy a high quality pencil and you will know where it is at all times. Or you will always have a somewhat reliable low quality pencil within grasp. These pencils aren't very enjoyable or plentiful, but they are forgettable. 3The only pencil brand I useI only write with mechanical pencils. I have a reputation for it at work. I always bring my own. I think I own at least ten Pentel mechanical pencils both .5mm and .3mm.These are wonderful pencils. Firstly they do not feel cheap. They have a weight and a feel to them. They are not made with flimy weak plastic. They feel great in your hand. They are resilient. They really really last. Most of mine are at least a year older - the majority ever older. And they have been through Hell. I take them with me to work. I shove them in my pockets and bike with them, stick them behind my ear where they are constantly falling, often from the top of a ladder. They get kicked around and when I get home my cat paws them across the floor. And they work just as great as the day I got them. I have used other brands in the past that have not survived a quater of the abuse my Pentel pencils have.I cannot praise these pencils enough. And at the prices on Amazon.com - woth every cent. 5Few things are this perfect.I started using Pentel mechanical pencils nearly 40 years ago when I was an engineering major and much of our work was done on tablets of gridded green engineering paper. I always had a Pentel 0.5 mm pencil and a Pentel white tube eraser handy for decades. I bought these for a great-niece just starting out on her adventures. To my knowledge nothing has changed in the design of these. Nor should it. 5MY FAVORITE PENCILSI love stationery. I bought these pencils 2 years ago after doing some research and price comparisons, and I have not had a single problem with them. They're sturdy, offer good protection for the lead, and do not break. It is much more worth your money to buy these two pencils than buy many other pencils for cheap. I still have both of these pencils, and use them every day at school.note: I do not use the small eraser in the back unless necessary. I always have a hi-polymer Pentel eraser half with me, and use that instead. I also refill them with the pentel lead. 5
