NOT THE BEST TAPE I HAVE EVER USED This tape has two problems:(1) The tape is very thin(2) The glue is very strongThe combination of thin tape and strong glue caused many problems: When applying the tape it easily ripped so it was quite difficult to use. When trying to remove the tape it took some of the paint off that which it was designed to protect. For my second job I switched to regular old masking tape and all the problems disappeared. I am sorry I cannot recommend this tape. 2Defective After I happily used up about 20% (give or take) of the roll, I came to a place where a dozen or more layers of the tape were cut through half way across the roll. The tape was still usable, but peeling the tape off the roll as usual I was getting about a foot at a time--the roll's circumference. After those dozen or so layers went, the tape continued as normal. It was still usable, just rather inconvenient. I could not take a picture; was too busy with my project.Otherwise, the tape is good, so three stars, not one as I considered. 3High quality product with a little downisdeI have found this a good tape for painting but with some qualifications. It is very sticky compared with other brands which has pluses and minuses. On the plus side you can make razor sharp lines between one paint and another with this tape. Also, there rarely is any bleed under the tape and it comes off with no residue whatever. On the minus, it is harder to manipulate and place and sometimes harder to remove--especially if you try to strip a really long line of tape from a wall to ceiling junction all in one piece.. I also think that the tape is a bit on the thin side, and thus tends to tear off mid-piece a bit more often when removing it than some others. Because of the latter concern I would not use it again for really high, hard to reach ceiling masking.Otherwise: very satisfied.4Holds firmly and yet removes easilyOriginally purchased for painting, I have wound up using it for many other purposes. The beauty of this tape is that it holds things well, but is easily removable when no longer needed. When gluing things, this is the perfect helper. It can hold the objects together until the glue has dried and then be removed with no residue showing where the tape was used. For painting, it has turned an amateur painter into someone who can rival a pro. I have left the tape on for a number of days before getting to the paint job and still had no issues peeling the tape back off. The tape removed quickly and left no evidence that it had ever been there. Will purchase again.5Blue tape works for so many thingsThis is the usual high quality for this excellent 3M painters' tape.Different widths are helpful--different width stripes, for example, or narrow versus wide mouldings or crevices that need masking. Mostly I use the 1-inch tape (which is really 0.94 inches wide). Sometimes this narrower tape is perfect.I prefer this blue tape over the original tan masking tape because blue tape allows less bleed through and releases more easily, even long after it should have been removed. It is less expensive than the premium, green masking tape--which also works great, if the cost balances out.Blue tape has so many uses besides the obvious original purpose.** I tear short pieces and mark them with a Sharpie before putting leftover containers in the refrigerator. They are surprisingly tenacious. Some have stayed put through more than a dozen trips through the dishwasher. Blue tape is also super for ownership markings on plates, dishes and containers that take a field trip elsewhere and need to come back home.**Most of my tools have blue tape on them somewhere. It lasts a long time. If I see someone with a tool that looks like mine AND it has blue tape on it, well, there's no question about ownership.** Lots of measuring jobs need blue tape. Locating studs so you can hang something up? Blue tape is your chalkboard.** Recently I was installing window wells along a foundation. The concrete was damp so Sharpies were uselessly transparent. Didn't have chalk. Blue tape stuck well enough, even on the damp concrete, to get the window wells lined up horizontally and vertically, ready for back-filling to hold them in place.** Sacrificial cord wrap. A few wraps will hold most coiled cords together. The wrap easily rips when it's time to stretch out the cord.I could tell dozens of blue tape stories, but you probably have your own. Great stuff.5NO OTHER BRAND CAN COMPARE- FOR TEACHERS!You get what you pay for with blue tape... this is the best for hanging pictures and such in the classroom and having no residue when taking down work. We often recycle pieces every several weeks to save on consumption but after buying so many different brands to try to say on budgeting for tape and classroom supplies, we've learned that this is the best value. Honestly... who likes walking into their classroom in the morning to find all the work they put up on the floor... we've had so many issues with other brands. Skip the headache and purchase Scotch Blue Original. Wish they had teacher sales!5Low quality - do not buy from amazon.I was disappointed with this product. It seems that all scotch blue original painters tape is not created equal I bought a pack of rolls from amazon for an indoor painting job and the tape quality was poor. It wouldn t stick well at all when applied. I often had to redo the taping when it fell off. It not only fell off small surfaces like moldings but also off flat surfaces like ceilings. After talking to a couple other painters they said not to buy blue tape from amazon (or Home Depot) even though it s appears to be the same scotch brand product. The tape cost me a significant amount of time (retaping and also repainting where tape fell off) and money (I had to go out and buy more tape and do far more touch up painting than normal. This tape isnt cheap. Will not buy again from amazon.1Good tape, but rolls come loose without any wrapperI've tried a few brands of blue painters tape, but keep coming back to Scotch since it seems to have the most consistent performance. I'm 100% happy with this tape, especially at the price for a 6 roll pack. The tape rolls came loose -- no wrapper on the individual tape rolls or on the total of 6 rolls (as it is shown in the product photo). Just six loose rolls of tape. Not a huge problem, but I would have preferred that there be some type of wrap around each roll to help keep it fresh (i.e., not have the adhesive dry out) while in storage4Went on nice but came off in pieces. I used this tape to mask off my pickup truck for painting and I had a lot of trouble getting a lot of it off. I used a piece to edge around the windows and moldings and the used regular masking tape to hold the paper against the blue tape. Most of that masking tape started in the middle to inside edge so there was a lot of blue tape that received both some primer and the finish paint coat. The tape was on for 4 days and it was in the sun... which seemed to be OK based on the description. Wherever there was paint on the tape it would not come off easily because it would rip and the pieces that were left had to be started with a knife and they would also rip so the removal process was a rain pain. The tape that didn't have any paint on it pulled off easily but since the whole purpose of using this tape was to get a clean paint line then you can't do it without getting paint on it. Pretty disappointing that it would not come off easily so I should just have saved some bucks and went with regular masking tape for everything since the end result would have been about the same for a lost less. 3This is a car enthusiasts best friend or auto painterThis tape is perfect for me and all my projects. I paint cars and add different custom work using this tape and have yet to have any issues. It's very consistent and the tackiness isn't too tacky so that it damages the surface it's on. I have also used this as an alternative to transfer tape when making decals for vehicles, again it's gentle enough to hold something in place such as vinyl without damaging it. Will buy again soon.5Many uses This tape is the one I go to whenever I need to hold something for a short time. I like how easy it is to use and see. I had placed a motion sensor bulb into our overhead light in the hall so we wouldn't have to turn the light on and off every time we went to/from the garage. However we had become use to using the switch, so to break that habit I put a 4 inch strip over the switches. Yes, easy to see and soon we may remove that tape. I also use it to tape down my soldering iron power line so the weight of the switch and wire won't pull it off the table. It's also handy to tape close small containers so the parts don't spill when stored. 5Good general purpose painter's tape It's a good product for the correct use. It has enough adhesion to hold in place, and yet not damage the surface. That said, don't leave it on for days/weeks/etc. Then you will have the opposite problem. It'll be hard to remove. As for bleed through, I find it satisfactory. So long as you paint away from the tape (in an on the tape>off the tape motion) or use a dry brush stipple technique, it's fine. But if you are looking for more "free range" painting, there are product better designed for that that will result in a razor edge. All in all, it is a good general purpose painter's tape. Have used it before, will use it again. 4For 3D printing, I'll never not use this product.I use this product with my Robo3D R1+ 3D printer as print bed adhesive. To install on a 3D printer bed is pretty simple:You just try to cover the bed completely with one perfectly sized layer, sticky side down. It's not the stickiness of the tape that makes prints adhere to the print bed- It's the porous nature of the outside of the tape that does it.After using this I can honestly say I'm never going to use a different product for bed adhesion again. This stuff just works perfectly and there is no mess at all. I can even reuse the same tape over and over until it rips. As an added bonus, this tape is wide enough that it only takes 3 strips or so to completely cover my print bed. Also:I recently painted a cabinet in my house and used this to cover up some areas I didn't want paint on. It worked perfectly!5BE AWAREI HAVE PAINTED ROOMS OF ALL KINDS, FOR OVER 50 YEARS. I HAVE USED A VARIETY OF PAINT GRADE TAPE FOR A GOOD MANY YEARS. I HAVE TRUSTED SCOTCH BLUE TAPE FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THINKING OF SAVING MONEY I PURCHASED THE BULK PACKAGE OF 6 ROLLS. NOW ALSO OVER THE YEARS I HAVE BOUGHT ROLLS OF TAPE THAT HAD TO BE TOSSED DUE TO THIER ADHESIVE, GOING BAD. THIS CAUSES THE TAPE TO PULL PAINT OF THE WALL ITS SUPPOSSED TO BE PROTECTING ALSO IT CAN CAUSE BLEED THROUGH DUE TO THE ADDHESIVE BEING FAULTY.NOT BEING A CHEMIST I CAN ONLY ASSUME THIS FAILURE IS DUE TO AGE OR BAD MANUFACTURING.NOW WHAT DO YOU DO WITH FIVE AND A HALF ROLLS OF BAD TAPE? I THINK FOR FUTURE PURCHASES SUCH AS THIS, I WILL BUY LOCALLY AND AND TAKE TIME TO ASK THE STORE HELP, HOW OFTEN DOES THE PRODUCT GET STOCKED. WELL I HAVE TO GET BUSY TRYING TO REPAINT SOME KITCHEN WALLS.I HAD TO GIVE AT LEAST ONE STAR OR THE SITE WOULDNT LET ME SUBMIT MY REVIEW, OTHERWISE IT WOULD GET NONE!1... safe tape on the market and this is the best. While this tape has a premium costI have tried every "painters" safe tape on the market and this is the best. While this tape has a premium cost, it's performance surpasses anything else out there. The other tapes have inconsistant tackiness and often won't stay in place or grab too much when it's time to remove. This works best on smooth and semi-smooth surfaces found with interior home painting (i.e...smooth walls, wallpaper and textured walls).5
