absorbs odors (and not in the way you want)I made sure to get a stainless steel trashcan that wouldn't absorb odors. Unfortunately, some of the upper parts of the lid are plastic and absorbed odors after a few months. We scrubbed the can, deodorized, took out trash frequently and nothing a bad odor still lingered. It was the can itself even after it was cleaned. We had to soak it upside down in vinegar and water to get rid of the smell and now the lid makes loud irritating sounds upon opening and slowly closing. It will only happen again over time until I give up and buy a new- and different- can. Lesson learned- no plastic parts.1Complete Piece of Garbage (no pun intended) I have had this super expensive garbage can for only 2 months, TWO MONTHS, and it cost $100. It has already broke. Contacting the manufacture expecting a replacement, instead they send me a part to fix it? What? You are telling me that a premium trashcan will go bad in a matter of months and instead of replacing the thing, you send me a part and now I have to fix it? This is not a car, or a house. It is a trash can. This can was a replacement for a previous Simple Human can that also prematurely broke from manufacture defects. I am never buying from Simple Human again. They are truly awful products.1But for one TRAGIC FLAW, it could have been perfect...This could have been the best no touch trash can on the market, bit it's got one massive and tragic flaw.I'd surely give this trash can 5 stars if it weren't for the EXTREMELY LOUD and literally VIOLENT cracking/snapping sound it makes every time I close the inner lid after replacing the liner. It sound like plastic exploding, and I just don't trust that the trash can will last because all that stress is sure to break whatever is flexing so terribly out of place as I lift up the lid, then cracking back into it's proper position when closing it again.I've tried pushing, pulling, squeezing and finagling with thing each time I replace the bag, but nothing seems to make a difference in whatever's causing the super loud crack from occurring. I have to imagine it's simply a design issue, but one that wasn't caught because the design never got extensively tested. It took about 2 weeks for ours to start exhibiting this problem.By the way, I'm not talking about the foot pedal operated smaller lid that you use throughput the day... that one didn't have any issues (at least at first), but operated extremely smoothly. However, now that the big cracking has been going on for a while, I'm noticing the smaller foot petal lid has begun creaking/groaning as it finishes shutting.Seriously, that wasn't making any noise at first, and as the big cracking has gotten louder and more extreme, the volume of the groaning has been growing worse as well. It's a real shame, because everything else about this trash can is perfect. It's a great size, shape, material, etc. I was about to buy a second one for recycling, but fortunately procrastinated just long enough for the dreaded cracking to rear it's ugly head.Team Simple Human: what gives? This FLAW was pointed out in MANY other reviews and you claimed it was fixed. Why are you still shipping flawed product???At $100... I cannot recommend that anyone purchase this thing. I'm a grown man; I ride horses, hunt, shoot and drive fast for fun, but I hate changing the liners on this damn trash can because I'm terrified it's going to either explode or snap my fingers in half. My wife won't even go near it when it's time to change the liner...Until this issue is fully resolved, I recommend everyone look elsewhere for your kitchen trash can needs.1Loud squeaking soundI've had this 7 months now and it makes the worst loud squeaking sound when the lid shuts and most of the time the lid I still stays open and I have to manually shut it anyway. Loved it at first. Hate it now. My son actually hold his ears when the lid closes that's how loud it is. I thought fot $100 I was buying something that would last but I've gotten better trash cans at Wal-Mart for $20. Very disappointed.1Sealed Lid so garbage bag doesn t fall in!I love this. I have a house with many people including kids. This garbage keeps the garbage bag intact with its tight lid grip. So when u throw food down it, the bag doesn t slide causing food to go outside the garbage bag. I love it s stainless steel touch and all. They recommend u buy their bags but I didn t. I have a whole box of garbage bags I bought from Costco the 13 gallon bags, and they work just fine. This garbage can is durable, stainless steel and much reliable when it comes to reducing a smelly garbage and food outside of the bag. It s worth the money! Hope I helped :)5Great purchase for people with thieving cats!I bought this trash can because my cat was once a stray who hasn't ever managed to break the habit of scavenging, though she's well-fed. She's also frustratingly smart and managed to defeat all of our "cat-proofing" efforts on our old trash can.The lid of the trash can is flush with the rim, so cats can't paw it open, and they'd have to be really heavy/strong to trigger the pedal to open it. It's also quite stable, so pushing it over isn't an option.5QUALITY TRASHCANThis is our second Simplehuman trashcan. This is by far the nicest I've seen. Stainless is fingerprint resistant, heavy duty and is overall a very quality piece. The first one lasted us 8 years, but the foot pedal stopped working, but I will say with 2 younger kids at the time, I saw how it got stomped on a few times lol. This one does seem better built, and it has a slow close lid which is a bonus. Also came with their version of a 10 pack of trashbags. Bit expensive, but I can't stand plain white plastic trashcans :)5Not with it We have had this trash can for 2 1/2 weeks and now every time we open the lid it makes a loud croaking noise. If you do decide to go with this can the lid is very fragile. The first time we opened it (with normal amount of pressure on the foot pedal) the lid opened further than it is intended and hit our granite counter tops leaving a line etched in, so now I put my hand on top of the lid just Incase1Great simple can after three month, and a fix for all those coplaining abuot the squeek or groanSimple, no battery's, chargers, cords to fail .Totally mechanical, touch free unless changing bags.Bags: J that came with fit great. Started using Costco tall kitchen flex bags, slightly larger. Can came in great packaging no damage. Some reviewers say it developed a groan , and after 3 months mine did too. Some said to move or adjust the rods ,levers, not really solving for more than a day. Do this: Get some Teflon spray, open the lid ring and spray the metal rod the hinges and the side plastic notch tabs, that lock the bag retainer ring open, and behind the can at top and bottom of the rod. wipe off excess. BETTER than new no loud clicks groans or noise . Silent.5Nice sturdy can!I was looking for a larger stainless trash can because it seemed we (two adults), were taking the trash out at least every other day with a smaller can. This unit was more expensive, for sure, but it has a 10-year warranty! The lids on our two (smaller) previous stainless trash cans (expensive cans as well) broke after about 5 years. Anyway, there were no instructions needed for putting the lid on, however, once I separated the lid from the lid rim, it felt like if I forced the lid down, I would break something. I researched online and found I just needed to push it down. Once I did, it closed smoothly (with no horrible sound others have experienced with the older models). So far this trash can has been great, and sometimes we go 5 days or more before taking the trash out. It was kind of funny, because my husband kept looking inside seeing a fairly empty can after two days, and would say, "Dang, I'm going to need muscles to take this out by the time it is full!" However, we usually toss light-weight items into our cans, so that has not been the case. And even though this can holds a lot more (I still use the same size bags) it doesn't really appear that much bigger than my previous smaller cans.5
