Customer Reviews

Sadly this one does not work from the outside After I had installed this, it worked flawlessly from the inside but pressing the button from the outside just resulted in the button going all the way in and not releasing the catch. Took it off three times and made sure that the thin flat center slide was free and centered correctly but the results were the same i.e. open from the inside only. Then I put it together without fitting it to the door and again the outside button was free floating as if the mechanism that should open the door from the outside when the button is pushed is not there....I know that sounds wrong...but I put back the old one I was replacing and although the center flat piece was the same length as the new one, it worked fine so I figured the new one is broken 3Incorporates the spring instead of using a separate spiral spring - so easy to install! This is a very basic latch replacement for screen/storm door handle -- not keyed! -- with extra strikes and screws to accommodate different sizes.Installation is a breeze -- took perhaps 5 min. for this senior citizen -- assuming you are replacing a latch that had what is now the standard spacing for the holes. You need to pick the 2 screws of those included (several sizes) to match the thickness of your door. The most difficult part of the installation is simply making sure that you adjust the length of the bar (snaps off to various lengths depending on the thickness of the door) so that the latch will operate correctly from both sides. If you don't snap the bar to the correct length, the inner handle won't latch/unlatch or may not stay locked, or the outer button may seem to latch instead of unlatch. As others have noted, the strike plates with this set are not the spring-bar type but rather the solid type; two different height plates are included, to accommodate all those different types of doors and spacings that have been used in the past. You can also use this with a spring-bar plate, but you'd have to buy that separately for a few dollars. Two plastic shims are also included with this, to allow more finely adjusting the height of the strike used. And as mentioned above, several lengths of the two screws are included, to accommodate different door thicknesses.I am giving this latch set 5 stars for one very specific feature: There is no bothersome easy-to-lose separate spiral spring, as you'd find on almost every other inexpensive latch replacement set. Instead, the spring functionality is incorporated into the outer handle. Wow, why haven't all the other manufacturers done this, instead of relying on that annoying separate spiral spring that is so easy to drop when assembling the latch to the door?? [I have to admit, at first I thought this was just missing the part, but instead it's been replaced by something actually attached to the handle.]For that alone, plus the low-low price of this Amazon add-on item, I give this 5 stars. If you are comfortable with a screwdriver, you will have no trouble getting this installed. 5Solid replacement for original handle. It fit as expected, easy to install. I was replacing one already installed, so all I needed was a screwdriver. The center metal shaft is adjustable for the thickness of the door, by breaking it to the right length (using pliers). I either didn't need to break mine, or used the original shaft with the new handle. Solid fit, and easy button operation. 5A Screen Door Latch Worth the Money. If you need a replacement latch for your screen door, you will more than likely want something, that you know will work. Wright products has these wonderful replacement handles that are even MORE solid than the original handles that come with most screen doors. The pictures they take for this sales area just doesn't do justice to how the handle really looks and feels. The handle can go into both left and right hand doors and matches up perfectly to those pesky and flimsy broken ones, sold by the manufacturers. 5Extremely Sharp piece on back of latch While installing this I noticed some blood on my hand, I looked and I'd been cut on my right index knuckle and 3 places on my left index finger and across my thumb knuckle. I was surprised as I had only been installing the handle and latch of this product for a couple of minutes. On closer examination I realized there was a piece of metal on the back of the inside latch part that was as sharp as a dull razor blade, I don't know if this was just a part that hadn't been deburred or sanded down correctly, or if it is like that on other runs of this product. I worked as a machinist and metal fabricator for years and this is an unacceptable manufacturing oversight, just by handling the product while installing it I've been left with several bleeding cuts within a couple of minutes, there shouldn't have been any pieces left that sharp on this type of part. Hopefully this was just an overlooked piece and not a whole batch of parts that hadn't been finished correctly. 1A Good Fit for Older Storm Doors A good fit for older storm doors. This seems to be a universal kit with different length screws, shims, and 2 different sized striker plates. Since my 1.25 " storm door was installed in the 80's, (I didn't have to drill any holes) it all worked out fine. I was even able to leave the old striker plate on with no adjustment, and the door held tight when closed. 5Easy replacement, handle works great, but lock does not UPDATE: This product had problems after less than a year - the metal bar punched a hole in the knob (see second picture). Bought a cheaper one and ended up using the knob and door frame part from that, while keeping the handle from this one..ORIGINAL REVIEW:Replaced an old (late 1970s) storm door handle with this one. Did not have to drill any new holes, just had to shorten the "spindle" by two notches as instructed. Total install time was about 10 minutes. The strike plate that came with this one was a simple piece of metal, while the old one was "a bar in a channel" design that seemed more robust (see lower right corner of my picture). The only drawback is the lock does not say locked. With the door open, I can click down the lock and still press the outside button to release it. Another thing I learned was the old lock had a "leaf design" above it and this one does not. But had I wanted it the back of the package shows they also make that design (the VC333 instead of the V333). Fortunately, there were no holes hiding behind it, so this one looks OK on the door. 2Product works fine Used this to replace a broken latch on a storm door and it fit perfectly. The only installation delay I encountered was sizing the spindle. The instructions say you should be able to "snap it off" at the desired length, but in reality you will need a saw for cutting metal (I used a jig saw with a metal blade) to get the spindle to the desired size. 5Good handle, but hard to adjust metal spindle This appears to be a quality handle and should fit well in the space replacing a much older handle. However, the instructions require that you shorten a metal spindle to fit the size of your door by bending it apart with pliers. I only had to remove one length, which is probably a little less than 1/4". This has proven almost impossible to do with pliers. Trying to find other ways to shorten it now. 25 years of headaches and and 12 dollars could have fixed it Wow fit old holes. Then it opens right. The door is about 5 years old. The original latch never ever worked right. I fought that old latch. Cursed tried to adjust. Nothing worked. 8 minutes and worked like it should. Boy new door latch doesn't mean it's good from factory. Don't understand why the new latch from Amazon works perfect and the old one from day one didn't. I moved the steel plate back and forth. Nothing. With the old one.Used first day. One finger not squeezing with all my might. World differenceI used the old screws and that flat bar thing and old spring. Got me. Had it few weeks now. One finger and it's open. 5
