Customer Reviews

Horrible Quality From XactoI finally went through my 100 pack of #17 that was purchased 15+ years ago and I needed what I assumed was going to be 2 blades to shave the edges on some ABS plastic I needed to complete. I received them in the Xacto retail package exactly as pictured; the blades are correctly marked and as available in many specialty stores. Not only did 1 shatter like it was made of glass, the entire pack of blades failed on the first piece I was working on. It took 15 years and 1000s of pieces to go through 100 and I blew through 5 and I didn't get 1 piece done. I'm not chiseling chunks of plastic out; I'm removing small edge debris from molded plastic that you can remove with your finger nail. These blades were once perfect and left really nice finished edges on our products. This pack of blades all kinked and the blade edges were destroyed as soon as even the slightest pressure was applied.I have no idea what these can be used for as the ones I bought failed on very thin plastic remnants. Maybe they could cut thin pieces of heartwood pine; even that is more dense and thick than what I wanted to cut. I'm quite disappointed with the performance of these and I ultimately had to use my stack of standard angled blades and worked around the awkward working motion. 1Another great blade, but NOT a toy.I use a 1/2 dozen or so different blades that X-Acto make. These blades are oxidized to preserve the blade's edge and prevents rusting. I can attest to that as I have had some of these laying around for literally years, and are still as good as new. I also use them in situations that use water (while carving plaster castings for example). They are sturdy and strong, but I couldn't find the 100 pack available, so I compromised and bought 5 of the 5 packs, still, less than half price of 1/2 a 100 pack's cost. Not bad at all (but I noticed the price went back up by $1.10 since then). Despite that, these blades are great for uses that a chisel type action is needed.Having just seen their web site, they make a new #11 blade that is coated with zirconium nitride to make it the sharpest [their words] blade on the market. Can't wait to try these. This review first asked me: "How much fun is this toy" "How durable is this toy", but I have to point out, more for Amazon than anything, that this IS NOT A TOY!. It is a very sharp blade used to cut paper, plaster, wood and plastics. Please regard these blades with all the respect a surgeon would of his. Having said that, don't be afraid of them either, just use due caution. Over some 35 plus years, I have to say I only cut through skin once. That was all I needed. 5Great Blades at a great Price! My daughter needed these for a college art course. These cut the cardboard boards she used, very well. Her projects turned out very nice looking. 5Great blade for lifting die cutsInstead of paying for a Silhouette Spatula to use with my Silhouette Portrait, I use these #18 blades with my X-Acto tool. They do a nice job of lifting my die cuts off of the Silhouette Portrait Cutting Mat and I can replace the blade when it begins to get gummed up. I also use quite a few X-Acto X611 #11 Blades for X-Acto Knives, Bulk Pack, 100 Blades per Box for trimming my die cuts. If you buy yourself an Xacto X5282 Basic Knife Set you can use it for years for many different tasks.P.S. These blades are NOT toys. 5Useful toolI have three X-Acto. One I use to make designs in my bread because non only it cuts pretty well the dough but all elements are washable(you have to dry the blade immediately); moreover it does not take space in my drawer and it is cheaper than a bread blade. I have another to cut stuffs for my projects, cardboards, papers, etc. and the last one I bought for one of my Graphic Design classes.Protect yourself (blades are very sharp) and protect the blades buying the X-Facto with a cap. A very good investment which should last forever because you have 5 in the packet. These one adjust perfectly the X-Facto #1 5Elmer s is xacto...excellent productBoyfriend loves his gift and I was lucky to have found this item for such a good price. Exceptional quality and the real thing. He loves it. 5Size mattersMy xActo handle does not have a size so what I ordered didn't fit. I don't know how you tell which is correct. There are no specifications that I could find to help. 1ENVELOPE RECEIVED OPEN END AND EMPTYMIGHT HAVE BEEN GOOD PRODUCT IF I HAD RECEIVED ANYTHING......I HAVE WRITTEN TWICE ABOUT THIS.....WHITE AND BLUE ENVELOPE WAS DELIVERED EMPTY.....END OPEN.....NOTHING INSIDE......I HAVE PAID FOR NOTHING, LITERALLY! 1Re-Ordering these blades is much better than sharpening them yourselfThe pack of chisels arrived quickly after order. Razor sharp and hold their edge well. I have ordered these before and will order more when I deplete the supply. Re-Ordering these blades is much better than sharpening them yourself. For those ordering for the first time, make sure you are ordering blades for the #18 handle - which is larger than the standard X-Acto handle. 5Good blade to work on small electronics or craftThis is the type of blade I need to clean up electronics during the repair. I used it to remove old adhesive and grime off the metal parts so I can put new part back on with new adhesive. I think it can even be used to cut soft wood for my small craft projects. 4
